Well its official! I'm the proud new owner of an archery state record mountain goat!!! With 10 3/8" on his unbroken horn and 5 1/2" bases, I was in for a heck of a surprise when I got back to town and put a tape on him. Record aside, this was easily one of my favorite hunts to date. The culmination of great memories and even better help in some of the most impressive country in Northwest Montana, the places these animals call home are as challenging as they are beautiful. Ive been working with Eastmans to do up a story so more details to follow. Good luck in this year's draws, I encourage those of you who pull the tag of a lifetime this year to stick it out with your bow through to the end. The delay in gratification is easily worth it!

Thanks guys, he was either 11 or 12 sticksender. His horn was broken before the shot. Lucked out there as he didnt make it 10 yards, most of it rolling. All that he was missing was 5/8" on that side. That does account for alot when it comes to scoring though. His net would have been 51" even instead of 49 6/8". Considering all I was after was a mature billy, I dont lose any sleep over it.

Paul, the meat pack weighed 80# & the cape and head load was 70. Our guess was 300# on the hoof, maybe just under. After trimming/cleaning all the meat we ended up with 50# of steak & burger. Steaks a little chewey but otherwise surprisingly good.

this tread is missing some serious day by day details and photos. probably just a small oversight that will be quickly remedied by the new state record holder himself.

Congrats on the great billy. I know how you must have felt after putting the tape to him. I was lucky enough to shoot the new Utah Traditional Bowhunter state record in 2012 on a DIY hunt. I was not even going to get it scored but the fish and game officer that seen it said I need to. He scored 49 4/8 . Congrats again.
