He is wondering what's in the barrels for spring of 2015? Meat scraps, popcorn, licorice, honey and of course beavers!
For this guy its a free pass for 2 months of easy eating. Not so easy for any big boars that show up!!
That's some serious cribbing around those barrels.
Good luck this year Mike! We'll be looking for updates every day!
What's deal with two barrels? That many bears chowing down or a size indicator, shooters are bigger than two barrels?
This giant boar from last spring is about as big as 2 barrels!
We use 2 barrels because one is full of popcorn or oats and licorice and the other is full of meat scraps. and yes we do get so many bears they will empty it all in sometimes just a day or two, as many as 20-30 bears at one site.
Looks like a B&C raven in the middle too!
Good luck to you & all of your hunters this spring Mike!
Looking forward to following along! Good luck this season Mike!
Mike, would it be fair to call that boar"2 Barrell"?
Great bruin! Have a great season.
I'll be sure to check every day Mike!! It's still two long weeks till we get up to Kyle.
Wow that bruiser makes the barrel look like a 20 gal size!!!
What a giant... best of luck this season!
That is a huge bear for sure.
Big bear, but not a really big skull for his size.
He disagrees with you, bigkev42.
Got to like those daylight pics of the bigguns!
Good luck to you and your hunters bagging the jumbotron!
When do your first hunters arrive?
Mark
He is a giant bear. I'll take one with a head like that any day! I bet he eclipses the 20" mark.
Big bear for sure! Look forward to your reports Mike.
Wow I hope some lucky guy brings that one home this year!!
Will be anxiously waiting your pics every morning Mike!! Its a toss up if I go to the website or the coffee pot first each morning.
We just got all 30 of our baits set up! A few days earlier than normal. Now for some new ground blind building and camera checks, should be a few good ones on camera!!
In the meantime here is a picture of an absolute giant that a local buddy of mine, Gary Gillet, has on one of his baits in Alberta.
WOW!! He is an absolute giant. Unbelievable.
Those barrels are 36 inches tall too! the heaviest spring weight bear we have weighed in the last 8 years has been 445 lbs. This one has to easily break that. Gary is busy working and is having trouble getting out to hunt, I told him to quit his job, it's worth it.
Mike...and you thought NJ bears looked like circus bears? LOL
That's a beast of a bear!
This nice colored bear just hit one of our baits.
Some Giants on here! 9 Days and counting until the revenge hunt from last year. Can't wait
Save some for me Brandon, I'll be there in 2 weeks.
Is this early, late, or pretty much on time?
Some monster bears for sure. thanks.
It is a very early spring for us, about 3 weeks early but temperatures are staying fairly cool with highs only about 50 F which is good, we don't want it to all come on too fast.
That's a beautiful chocolate bear
Sorry for the lack of posts. Been very busy getting in some new wooden ground blinds and getting caught up on rechecking all our baits for our first group of guys. They came in yesterday, hunted the first evening, saw 29 different bears for the 6 hunters but no kills. Terrible weather, rain wind and now a few inches of snow! Lots of bears hammering the baits and several big ones, more than I can keep track of, hopefully a couple kills soon!
This is awesome! Great bears and some really big ones too. That cinnamon bear is beautiful. Good luck to the hunters and the guide. God Bless
These two will make beautiful cubs. Nice melon head on him.
And a legendary Giant returns in daylight. He is in trouble.
Now that is funny! haha, not even my kid. Don't know where that came from?!
Here is the right picture of the legendary giant!
The picture of the little girl is breathtaking! Guess it was meant to be there:)
Lots of big bears! I always enjoy this thread. Good luck Mike!
You know an outfitter is serious about getting you on a big bear when he starts using little girls as bait! Ha!
She reminds me of my little girl. Here she is with a bear she killed a few years ago. I like to get them started early!
Another Giant that is on the hit list, he came in yesterday on Randy Ginest from Kansas. It was just a bit too late for a confident bow shot. Randy said he saw another long, lanky 7 foot black and a big cinnamon, could have shot either one. It's go big or go home empty for Randy.
Damm! Mike, what's your guess on skull size of that bear?
Finished our 3rd evenings hunt. The 6 hunters saw 37 different bears and killed 2 good boars. Pics and stats tomorrow.
Randy's bear is a 20+ inch skull, 400 pounder I bet.
Mike Congrats on your hunters success!! You need to name Randy's bear the "intimidator"
Doug Kizzar from Kansas with a solid 18 inch head, 275 pounder. Should square around high 6 foot mark, maybe 7 ft. This is Doug's 2nd hunt with us but his first bear.
Jim Brown with a 250 pounder. First bear for Jim too, very happy, appreciative hunter.
Well, kinda weird but Jim's 250 lb bear had an 18 8/16 skull and squared 6 ft 6 inch. Doug's 275 lb bear had an even 18 inch skull and squared 6 ft 10 inch.
Mike Ukrainetz, not to be too nosy, but do you use red or black licorice?? Does one color/flavor work better for you??
Keep the pics coming. Good luck to all of your hunters Mike!!!
They eat all the licorice eventually, it comes in 40-70 lb blocks that range from gooey to rock hard, some are colors you've never seen before, brown, grey but it all gets eaten. They won't eat the sour gummy worms we sometimes get is about all.
We just finished our first group of 6 hunters and they got 7 good bears, no giants but some good Pope and Young qualifiers and some 18+ inch rifle kills too. Here is the motley crew of mostly repeat hunters. Left to right, top to bottom, Josh, Jamie, Doug, JB, Randy and Terry. All great guys, a fun week, even though I couldn't be there for all of it. My guides, Josh, Cody and Clayton and my cook Ana had to hold down the fort while I was away for a few days. I'm back monday for the rest of the season.
Doug's 2nd bear, a beauty cinnamon! Taken by spot and stalk while traveling between baits, that doesn't happen often for sure! Josh Harb was the guide who pulled off that stunt!
Terry Pifer with a good bow killed bear.
Terry with his 2nd big one.
Randy Ginest with his 2nd big coloured bear in 2 years. Squared just under 7 feet, 18 10/16 skull.
Congrats on the huge color phase Mike and hunter.
Beautiful bears.
Here in southcentral Alaska we are Still waiting on the bears to hit our bait. Looks like despite the last 8 weeks being 10 degrees warmer than normal and the snow being gone 6 weeks early, the bears are sticking to their normal yearly routine of not showing up till at least the 15th of May.
Here is Randy's bear from last year. He killed it the 5th day of the hunt, same as this year on the same bait. He was after a giant black both years that would not not come into the bait with enough bow shooting light and finally could not resist the temptation, you can only pass on a 7 foot cinnamon for so long!
