KS turkey permists?

If I'm looking at the KS regs correctly a license plus turkey permit is required to hunt 1 bird. If you want to hunt 2 birds you also have to buy a turkey tag? Am I reading the regs correctly?
Am I required to buy a license, permit, plus tag or can I just by the license plus permit and not buy a tag if I only have time for 1 bird?
You have to have a hunting license plus a turkey tag, you can buy up to two turkey tags. A Permit and tag are the same thing.
jims, you are correct. Kansas requires a hunting license, then they call the first a turkey permit and the second a turkey game tag. You can purchase only one, the permit, if you wish. You can also buy the second one, the game tag, later.
They used to call the second one a Carcass tag I think.
It weird they don't just call them both tags. It would make things a little less confusing but maybe there is a reason?
Jims,
Greg has it correct.
You have to have the regular hunting license, which is needed to hunt anything from deer to doves, in Kansas. Next, you need the wild turkey permit, the same as you would need a deer permit.
A second bird may be taken on a game tag, if you want one, and if it is allowed within the turkey hunting zone.
Game tags are kind of like bonus birds, and cost less than permits. When they're analyzing, and presenting data, biologist an easily differentiate between the two.
It's all very simple for us who live here in Kansas. I guess it's often confusing when we go to hunt in another state, and have to learn and abide by their rules.
I don't second-guess things and simply do it their way, to enjoy their resources. I'm always just happy to have opportunity.
In the future, I'd suggest you call KDWPT headquarters with questions, to make sure you get accurate answers - 620-672-5911.
No problem...I'll do it the KS way! Obviously every state is different and I'll learn and abide by each states laws. The reason I asked was because it wasn't clearly stated in the regs and I didn't want to do something wrong.
jims - I can be reached at

I'm pretty up on what's going on. If nothing else, I can always put you in contact with the best source for information.
Despite what too many Kansans say, we have a pretty good bunch of people managing our wildlife.
