Last week,I walked about a Mike from my house, set up under roasted birds and killed a nice tom at fly down. But,I did it with my shotgun.

Today, I walked about a mile in the opposit direction. I set up my DSD jake in a popular early morning strutting and gathering area.

Today,I have my bow...

I just heard the first gobble. He is about 100-150 yards away. That is good because I want perfectly quiet this morning

A nice flock flew down into my field. A nice tom,5 Jake's, and 3 hens. They milled around and the Tom strutted.

The Jake's and hens came to the decoy. It was quite a thrill to be 10 yards away without a bind.

But the Tom wandered off.

Maybe they'll come back...

The tom found more hens. Now, he is in the middle of the field with 5 hens.

I was looking left to monitor then. I looked right and the 5 Jake's were back out and looking my way. Luckily,I was fairly well hind and they didn't see me.

The tom and hens are feeding my way...

I didn't think it was goingto happen.

I put my decoy in line with the birds. Then,I crawled up to the decoy.

The tom noticed but the hens didn't care.

I started flashing the DSD jake arty the Tom. He kept watching and strutting and would not come

I crawled toward the Tom. He watched and the hens didn't care.

I didn't think I would make it the whole way. So I backed up. Now, I'm packing up and going to try tomorrow with my heads up decoy

I'm back... I'm in the same spot. No placed decoys. I just have the heads up.

I left the house at 4:30, got here at 4:40. Just heard my first gobbles from the trees at 5:10.

It is foggy this morning so I expect fly down to be later.

The tom,5 Jake's, 2 hens flew down about 5:30. I waited a few minutes and then exposed the heads up decoy to the tom. He was about 80 yards away.

The tom and the 5 Jake's took off running... away from me. The two hens didn't even seem to notice me. They just glanced over every once in a while.

Eventually, the hens walked off too...

Not sure what happened. This was a pretty big tom with a decent harem. I expected more from him...
