Mites in Turkey feathers

Just finished my Turkey fan. Do I have to woRry about mites or other bugs from Turkey feathers getting into my big game mounts

You certainly don't need to worry about it unless you want to but it is a possibility and it does happen in trophy rooms with birds so even if you choose not to worry about it you should do something about it

Bou what precautions could I take. Can mites live on feathers alone or do they need a host.

put your birdies in an enclose glass cube like Jake and be mite free and look really cool in the process.

How did you prepare the turkey fan? Did you cut/pull the feathers from the tail? If there is any flesh, gristle, or fat left on the feathers you will likely have bug problems. I would rub the bottom of the feather shafts in borax and let them sit in borax for a while.

I bet once that turkey was dead that they started bailing out.
