Baits are going out this weekend. My 10 year old and 19 year old have tags. Hope to video my 10 year old when the first bear slips in. I am more excited than if I was holding the tag.

Craig,
Paul and I were discussing what to pack for our upcoming hunt in 2 weeks and how excited we are. After seeing these photos, it's hard to concentrate on work. We can't wait to get up there and be in a treestand. Keep the photos coming! :)

What were you using in those drums? The bears here are hitting on just a regular bag of deer corn I put out.

If you don't put the barrels there the bears would have the bait cleaned out in 1 night. They would move on and you would not have bears stay at the bait.

I want to thank Jack pine acres (Tony) and his friend Paul for the great week. We had a lot of fun and lots of laughs. It always makes bear camp fun when you have good company. I even got to show the boys around and also got in some golf lessons lol.

The answer to the "Drums" question is: because you can!! It is not legal here in Michigan Zach to use anything Non-natural on public land but I assure you those that have private ground to bear hunt use drums just like they do in Manitoba. Lots of positives from the barrels like the bears are on the bait for hours due to small holes and the bait has to be worked at to get it out. Raccoons and other critters cannot clean you out. Can go days, or even weeks between visits to the bait site with a full barrel. Bait does not get washed out with big fall rains, Etc... Downside - especially in a place like Michigan. We would have barrels all over the northwoods as eye sores and the DNR have this one correct. Next best thing: Hollow stump - works really well and is legal.

What a great adventure with Craig and Melanie. You couldn't ask for a harder working outfitter or better hostess in these 2. Great people, hospitality, stand locations, equipment, meals - all top notch. I don't want to talk them up too much or Paul and I won't be able to get a tag for 2017. :)
Even had a chance to teach Mel how to play cribbage and we even won in partner play. :)
Can't wait to see your spring postings once you put those baits out and have hunters in camp. Good luck, be safe and we look forward to 2017.
