pat's question on how big a freezer for an elk has me thinking, that I should be doing the same. I'm looking at maybe a 1,000 watt inverter run off my truck. Do you think this would run a 9 cu. ft. freezer?

I looked up a 9 cu ft freezer and its power consumption was 600 watts. This would be ok for the inverter but you'd better have some RV deep cycle batteries to run it.

Check this link out for an idea.

General rule on electrical continous loads is 1.25 times the load. So 600w x 1.25 = 750 watt inverter. You should be fine if you have a good brand. Also piece of advice is to get the freezer cold at your house, then use the inverter to maintain the temp. It's puts a lot of strain on your inverter and dc system to try to get the freezer cold on its own.

By block ice or dry ice before you leave and store in it. It should stay cold

Buy a Honda generator. Some of the best money you can spend.
