Ok I didn't see one started so here it is.
Wishing everyone has a fun and safe 2015 elk season. I will not be hunting elk for the first time in 10 or more years. As I did a pronghorn hunt in Wyoming for 2 weeks, got a United Bowhunters of Pa group hunt about the last week of September here in Pa and hope to do a mid November whitetail backpack hunt in the Catskills of Ny.. I have a spot that's a few hours hike that I found years ago that looked good. I got there again about 2 months ago and it still showing a lot of whitetail activity, tracks poop and trails. Not sure what brings them there, but my guess is a small 4/5 acre flat spot that's swampy. I'm thinking maybe the only water for a few miles.
Anyway hope to see some happy folks post here over the next month, also love to read some live hunt threads also. Ed
Second day in UT, now off to NM
Elk down he still has the call handy! Nice Al
michael
Beautiful animals!
Fire closures here in the Inland NW...crazy conditions.
Tomorrow's opening day in CO. I bet it will only be a few hours into the day before we see Brandon's (matthewshooter) elk. Good luck to all.
Heading west this Thursday, I hope I can add a couple pics this year. Good luck to all and be safe.
Rick M
Rifle kill in July with a team of bounty hunters....lots to be proud of there!
Let's keep this thread for BOWsiters.
Goodness someone is touchy.
hahaha.. you guys! NEXT :D
that rack is like 12' tall, 8' wide and 5' tines ... wow
oh wait ... stupid long arming camera shot, my bad
Would have been so much more impressive had it been hard horned... and of course w/ a bow or at least a muzzle loader.
LOL not meat no elk, lots of people and I got a head cold/ sore throat that had its full onset at 10;30am. Slept/ napped tried to hunt from 10:30 am till 5:30, covered a mile. Feelin better now!!!
And how do you know they are bounty hunters, I personally know the outfitters that guided him and they put there work in year round to find these bulls. NO BOUNTY
However,
I heard a screeching every 10-15 seconds getting closer, kept glassing the opposed side of the drainage and saw a fox? I could see it was not making the the noise. I glassed a coyote, it wasn't make the noise either, however the coyote was fallowing the noise as was the fox. I moved up the ridge to a better spot so i could see what was making that awful noise. Without glassing i saw something running long tail, glassed and it was a cat. I've seen a few and have chased them in the winter a few times, but i think it was a female in heat? Or a lost juvenile.
No Meat to post year but its cool being out in the woods!!!!!
Good shootin' yotehunter!
Yotehunter congrats for your kill and to get this thread back on topic without the noise makers! Great bull!
way better trophy than the gov tag IMO yotehunter !

Congrats to all who got it done early.

Very nice all. Stick Man, great shot and great steaks! Congrats!
Elksong, very nice! 6 yards? What pin did you use? :)
EmbryOklahoma - All of them!lol
Nice.
Guys, when you post an elk picture, please put the state and date you killed it in/on.
Geez Royboy....what kind of broadhead was THAT!
300 yard pack.... I know nothing of which you speak....
Congrats folks.
Elksong, how it happened for you ought to be considered illegal!
Nice job!
Congrats to all. And remember guys, please state your full name, the state you shot it, the county and exact GPS coordinates.

Looks like 22X killed his bull in the state of Euphoria. :-)
Yup, 22X killed that bull in the state of Euphoria! That's one extremely happy looking man! No elk hunting for me this year, so I'm following all the threads and dreaming of high country.
Congrats to all that have gotten a elk. And congrats to u guys that are out hunting them. I did a lope huntthis year and can't do a elk hunt and its killing me. Like others above have stated these threads are all that's keeping me going. Boy do I miss elk hunting. Ed

First my cow... Sept 4 - 845am Colorado
Then my bull - Sept 4 - 915am - Colorado
Jesus Pete!.....you had some work to do after downing two in 30 minutes!!
Congrats!
Colorado - second day. My "7 second Elk".
In a new area (thanks to couple Bowsiters for the tips on where to look).
Partner and I were scouting / hunting, along a ridge - partner held up his hand in a "stop moving" position and mouthed the word ELK.
I looked up and saw the cow - put my GPS in my pocket, knocked an arrow, picked out and opening between two trees at 35 yards and hit the release. 7 seconds from the time I saw her until the arrow punched its hole.
I didn't realize it at the time, but she was quartering towards me slightly - the shot was about 2 inches higher than I aimed and came out a little far back.
150 yards straight down into "hell hole", pack out was a little over a mile and loved every step of it.
Montana - Sept 6th. Double lung (other side has the hole, hit opposite side bone so no pass-through). 40 yard shot, he went 50 yards and went down for good.
Congrats to everyone that has been successful. I look forward to posting my own LDP in a few weeks!
Congratulations to all the successful hunters. I would love to read about some of your trips as well.
Congrats to all who have had success thus far and best of luck to those just getting started. Here is my opening weekend Roosevelt from the OR Coast.
2015 Wyoming bull (taken on my birthday).
Congrats to all! I leave for my first elk hunt in 6 days. I can't wait.
My dad's OTC colorado bull. Died at 12,000 ft.
Congrats Jason what a great birthday gift to yourself!
delkslyr, man that camo on that bow is insane. At a glance it looks like your just holding up a quiver and a bottom limb.
My bull i got on 1st morning of Colorado's season. Cow called n bugle him into 28 yrds.
Bugled in this bull for my son on Sunday.
Killed my first Elk this morning in Wyoming.
skiffguide1 Congrats on your elk!! He is an awesome trophy and I am sure well deserved. He will have some of the best "organic" protein you have ever had:)
All the elk hunters on here with some success deserve a pat on the back! Great job guys with either your first, second, best, or 47th elk with a bow. You all are very lucky. For the guys heading out still or have not connected best of luck and keep the wind in your face...be patient and go slow. Best of Luck!!
I called in 2 bulls Sept 7th and took this one with a 35 yard shot, 60 yard recovery. CO Public land solo.
September 7 18 yards Oregon
Skiff - great shot on the ultimate meat elk.
Judging by his eyes, well strung looks more like high strung. Then again, shooting a nice bull will do that to you!
Great Oregon bull, DLB. Hope to get it done here next week.
I got one in Colorado. And my first ever.
Frontal shot did the trick again
Carcus, where did you get your bull??
Looks like Manitoba has some nice Elk!! Never thought of Elk hunting in Manitoba. Congrats!!

Carcus that's a great Manitoba bull, love the dark antlers with ivory tips.
I'm sitting out this year, just watching everyone else get it done. Going for moose yet though.
First Idaho hunt and first archery elk after missing a 6x6 earlier on the hunt, made a 20 yard quartering away shot and 50 yard recovery.
I'm back, second elk I've given backpack rides to this week!! I called in 3 elk for my brother on Saturday morning. This bull came in on a string to 30 yards in the dark timber. He came head on and I got him stopped broadside in a lane, My brother made a great shot and he went down in less then 10 yards.
Congrats to all the Elk hunters so far, Great elk !!
Neat stuff. Love the selfbow cow. Who needs a bull?
Pic didn't load for some reason. Lemme try this again.
Here's my opening day Bull for little old Washington state. I got a raghorn 6x6 3 years ago, and was going to be patient and hold out for something bigger. So much for waiting. His #4 is 22 inches long.
Congratulations to everyone getting their elk. Took mine 9/2 from a tree stand. Colorado.
Here's a better picture from the side with my Sherpa.
Congratulations to everyone getting their elk. Took mine 9/2 from a tree stand. Colorado.
Oh boy looks like tags are getting filled daily..looking forward to hitting the mountain soon
Nice elk fellas. I leave for the hills in the morning. 4am sharp. Can't wait to get out there. Hopefully you guys left a few in Colorado. ;)
Wyoming Public Land! Tough hunting with hot weather and no bugling!
Atta baby Ike....
Great Elk guys...
Grndson's Tanner Ragan 1st Elk 5BS Az, 2nd morning 40 yds. Called in single not much activity as far as rut, seen quite a few cows 1st an 2nd day no bulls
Not the biggest guy in the timber but my first.
Awesome 1st time bulls guys!!!! Big congrats!
Shot the morning of 9/11/15
Sept 13-15 foot frontal shot while bugling, 20 yard recovery...woulda be 5 but he rolled down the hill
9/12 cow elk. I too did not have the strength to hold back on the shot and wait for a bull. Snuck in to 40 yards and watched it graze and by the time I decided to shoot the cow, it had grazed out to 70 yards. 150 yd recovery. 1.25 miles one way from the car, 10.1 miles as the crow flies from the elk to my freezer. Sorry I am not in the picture, need to get something like mulepower sells to hold my camera.
Roseau, mn area. Rifle kill I'm assuming. Great genetics in Minnesota. Wish they would let the hear grow.
And for those few....in advance, settle down.
Norseman,, You Didn't??? :)
any of you see the pic of the big San Carlos bull. 447 i think
Teeton's Link
Here's a link to a San Carlos 447 bull downed in 2013.. Is there another one for this year?

Congrads Carcus on a Beautiful Manitoba Bull, no easy task by any means and certainly not your first but one of your most Beautiful Bulls.
.....Rosemary
Congrats guys, some beautiful animals!
September 11th in Montana........last day of the hunt heart shot
First elk hunt, DIY, Colorado
I was in the treeline behinde me. After checking out my decoy she passed in front at 60 yds. I double lunged her and watched her go down.
I flung many arrow at 60 yds over the summer in preparation for such a shot.
That cow is going to eat great. Cook your first steak over a smokey wood fire of some sort as it will bring the flavor out.
That's a lot of killin of what will be great grillin. Congrats to all those successful in harvesting and those who made it out there period.
Congrats to everyone so far ! I really enjoy seeing your success !
Here is a wilderness DIY hunt result. Not many bulls and had to move and cover a lot of country. Finally called one in close. I was packing in alone with my horses. This is archery bull number 20 all DIY.,He is not one of my biggest but very a special bull from a New mexico Gila adventure. Thanks to some other NM bowhunters I met in woods, who shared their intel on access and conditions to the back country.
Unique bull. Congrats. Some day I'll be back there. A very special place.
September 14th, public land, Montana.
Congrats Dave!! Very special bull for sure. You are a class act my friend!
Congrats eveyone! Great bulls!
Backcountry - Also, great picture!
Congrats to everyone who has gotten there elk! Some real nice bulls have been taken.
Congrats to everyone! Great footage Pat! Congrats
Montana Sept.17th. My tracking skills were put to the test on this one!
Perfect shot Pat; never mind two inches. I'm with Wes on this Pat...nothing worse than paralysis through analysis
WHEN [not IF] I find myself in the same situation I'd 'rather have half a loaf than NO loaf', which is why I practice with intent on lifesize elk vitals out to 60 yards...[don't worry, Buddy the Spotter Dog was safely at my side working the Swaro's when I took the shot]
Here are 2 of the 3 my dad and I took.
His Utah bull
My Oregon bull 3 days later.
September 9th in New Mexico. Bugled in at 2pm. 20 yard shot with a Black Widow, 150 yd recovery. First frontal shot - you bet I'll do it again.
First elk on September 10 in Colorado. frontal shot at 14 yards, 200 yard recovery.
I was blessed with a decent DIY NM bull this year. 6 days of frustrating hunting, 35-yard shot, 60-yard recovery. VPA went clear through him and stuck in a tree, and it still spins true. Maybe I'll shoot next year's bull with it.
Awesome posts everyone! Looks like it's been a good year so far. Thanks for sharing.
Oregon Bull, Sat within 50 yards of him bedded for 2.5 hours the third day of season. He finally got up but never gave me a shot. Caught up with him the next morning, September 1, and beat him to his bedding area.
My first archery elk on the first evening hunt. CO OTC. Was prepared to shoot anything legal, so it was nice surprise to have this guy come in bugling!
Lots of folks hunting in CO this year it seems.
The jinks is gone! AZ opening afternoon. Just under 12 hours on the stand before he came in to a water hole.
Side view. I'm still on cloud nine.
Here's the cow I shot on the second day of the season. What's left of her anyway. The camera I had with me was a cruddy little 35mm so I have to get the pics developed (very quaint). If any of the pictures I took in the field are decent I'll post 'em up. :)
Man those are some dandy bulls!
Wvbownut...you killed your bull on my birthday!!
The next best thing to hunting on your own birthday...is someone else being successful on your birthday!!
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed, there are some great bulls falling this year. Man, good job guys, keep up the great work!
Great looking Bull, Bill in MI. Congrats!
Ermine another amazing bull! Congrats buddy he is a beast.
Way to go Bill...Congrats!!
Thx guys and congrats to all the successful! Lots of bone in this thread.
Congrats Wvbownut wheres my elk steaks?
Alright, I'm very confused. Yesterday I tried to post a picture of a bunch of meat in a fridge, now I'm checking it and the picture with my post is that of a longbow. It isn't even my longbow. I have no idea how that happened. Anyway, here's the picture I tried to post yesterday.
First Solo DIY hunt in LE unit in CO. 30 yard shot 60 yd recovery. My first bull.
AZ bull on Sept 14th pm hunt with Ward's Outfitters. Cow called into 38 yard -quartering to shot.
Story on leather wall titled Finally killed a bull
9/16 Arizona with Wards Outfitters. What a great hunt!
Scott
My first bull. As you can see, a horrible shot, but it ended in a surprisingly short track job, about 70 yards or so. Wyoming
1 mile and 2 grizz later I found my bull
Greenhorn DIY with Bro-in-law. Arizona 9/17, what a hunt. We're officially hooked. He called him right into my lap at 30 yds. Smoked him and went 100 yards and piled up. I have a feeling this hunt just changed the future of my September days for years to come.
Recon 12 - You got that right!!!
Wyoming public land, general tag. 15 yard frontal 75 yard recovery
Manitoba...that is friggin outstanding! Absolutely love the Recurve and the dark coloration all over that Bull...
5X5 Colorado Public Land, 30 yard broadside 75 yard recovery
Congrats everyone! Here is mine. CO OTC wilderness backpack hunt.
Wow!!!, some great bulls dropping. Congrats everyone.
Great bull Ryan! Congrats!
Tuesday 9/15 - Bighorn Mountains, Wyoming
40 yard pass through, 15 yard recovery
DIY Wyoming wilderness (friend as designated guide)
Royboy - Congrats, I like your first photo. Where was it taken?
Montana general tag public land
Well I already posted mine in another thread, but as a new member I did not realize you had this one so here he is. Idaho public land diy. Spot and stalk in open country.
Congrats to all of you successful hunters. Great animals!
WY general. Had a tough hunt with quiet bulls and warm weather. Then miserable weather for 4 days. Lots of drying boots by fires. First year I was holding out for a big one. Passed a rag at 24yards on day 3 then missed a 320 or so bull on day 5. Got this guy on day 10, our last day, with 30 minutes of light left in our hunt. He was a satellite of a big guy but my brother called him right into my lap and I got a 25 yard shot. We were ready to throw in the towel before this last evening hunt but the persistence paid off.
Here's my 2015 7 x 8 point, Montana bull.
9/13 Idaho 6x5 bull. First morning out and I was in the bulls. Focused in on a low raspy sounding bull and ended up having 5 bulls around me. This one came in first and I am not picky so I took the 29 yard shot. 15 minutes later the big boy came in and stood 23 yards away. Shot him also except it was with my video camera. Awesome morning.
Conrats Dave!! Nice Bull.
Nice pics of Bulls and cows. Wish I was hauling the meat out as well.
Tack another up for CO, finally got one day of a cool down on Tuesday the 22nd and it caused the rut to frenzy! My Dad and I got into a canyon that had 12 different bulls screaming at each other. I was able to sneak in on two bulls that were fighting, glunking, screaming, and chasing each other around. This bull charged in wanting a piece of the fight and I was able to drill him at 30 yards! Another awesome hunt and adventure shared with my best buddy I could ever have in my Dad!
First Alberta Bull Sept.12/15 was a great time and a great bull.
Wyoming 6x7 taken 15th of September at 38 yds, 35yd recovery.
Congrats to all the successful hunters. Some nice animals have been taken.
Here's a better side view of the 7th point.
first NM bow bull 16 yard frontal 50 yard recovery, NAP Hellrazor did a hell of a job
wy general tag public land. my first wilderness/solo backpacking jobbie....
Idaho DIY 9/18, day 9 the bull came to cow calling 35 yard shot.
Another nice Wyoming bull taken.
First elk hunt, shot on the morning of the 19th in SW CO. Not a very big bull to many, but he's huge to me.
Congrats to all the successful hunters! Some great bulls
Finally get the monkey off my back! 1st bull
Not much of a picture but after getting nailed by the grizzly on the second day of season I thought I was done. I was able to draw my bow again about a week ago, and I shot a cow this morning, on my final day to hunt. Congratulations to all the successful hunters.
Way to recover, Mike...Congrats!
Best of Luck, Jeff
Here are a couple of pics of the cow I got the second day of the season in MT.
Here's a bad attempt at a selfie. :)
Sept. 14 OTC Colo. 30 yard shot with a spike standing within ten feet of me. Can't wait for next year. Congrats to everyone and thanks for sharing.
10 yard shot 40 yard recovery Sept 19 New Mexico.
Sept 25, 15 yards, 40 yard recovery
My first elk - Colorado, 24 yard broadside (steep angle above me) 70 yard recovery.
15 yd shot...50 yd pile up.
Colorado OTC, man was it hot and quiet with very little bugling. Managed to get a couple bulls to work the eve of the 25th. This one came in and gave me a 21 yard shot.
Congrats to all who scored . Some great pic too.
1st bull on 5th attempt, this year in Wyoming, on public land DIY. Shot him while still hunting on a wet and windy day.
My first ever elk wrapped up a 2 for 2 hunt for me and Jason(Huntabsarokee). 9/20 WY, Jason called this guy in to less than 20 yards twice before I could get a clear shot. After a staring match at 15 yards he turned to walk away. Jason gave him the "YEEOH" and stopped him in place as I came to full draw. Was able to make a good shot on him.
Elk were rutting hard last weekend in Colo. Arrowed this one twice at 20 yards within 10 seconds and he flipped over dead. Scrappy little raghorn broken beam on one side and busted points on the other.
This is how he fell.
Spent most of my hunting time on 3rd Colo archery moose hunt (successful) so thrilled with any bull on last weekend. There were at least 5 bigger bulls in the mix at close range but happily took the first to step into view and bow range to my calling.
Drew my bow on 4 different bulls in easy bow range the previous day and could not quite get the shot I wanted. Fun!!!
Lots of first elk taken this Season on the meatpole...very cool!
Great bull Chukar! And great job on getting back out after it Mike! That is by far the most impressive elk of any on the board if you ask me.
Took this great guy up and got his first bull! I think he had a lot of fun until the 4 mile pack out! This WY bull is one of the oldest elk I've ever seen... 18"+ G1-G3 but the backs of a raghorn. The photo doesn't do it justice but he has one of the biggest heads I've ever seen!
Best exchange of the hunt...
"Paul, he's just under 50 yards... get ready."
"No way he's closer than that!"
"No, Paul, he's just really big..."
Lol.... whitetail hunters!
Our Idaho elk hunt was over pretty quick this year, getting eight elk between Aug. 30 and Sept. 10.
I'll post the pictures of the usual suspects.
This last one is mine.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!!!
After we were done, I went over to where my son and a couple of his friends were hunting. My son, Tiege, killed a cow before I got there, but they didn't take a still picture but it's on film.
Clay Hayes, who makes the movies, like "Untamed", got a nice bull and Tiege filmed him shooting it.
Packing it out.
Clay used an osage snaky self bow he built.
AND YES, THERE'S STILL MORE!!!
Two of us in camp had moose tags this year. Mine was in the same area we hunt elk in so I got to do a combo hunt. Todd's was in a different zone, so he had to wait.
I know, they're not elk, but I got mine in elk camp.
And if you're wondering why I would shoot a small bull with a once in a lifetime Idaho tag, it's because I have pretty much zero interest in antler size anymore and I hate having to grind it all up to chew it and there was this great packing out solution.
As you can see, we are a little heavy on longbows. Consequently, as opposed to some guys in Idaho who think you need to shoot long range out west, the longest shot of the twelve animals was my moose at 30 yards. And that was a double lung pass through and I never did find my arrow in the tall grass.
Mark
What a year Mark! Very impressive. That's the most meat I've ever seen in a single camp...with traditional gear no less. Unbelievable. Very cool!
Holly Cow...I mean Bull! Awesome!
MarkU.....WOW...very impressive season for you and your stick flinging buddies. Thanks!
NM,
Damn, I see you hit that bull in the elbow and managed to kill him. Jesus!
Good job.
Montana 9/17 DYI public land 52 wide, 53 main beams, scores 351
I've worked long and hard to finally post to this thread. My first archery bull, and all it took was moving from WI and buying a couple horses to crack the code. Seems a lot of guys get it done easier than that, but anyway, here he is.
These guys added a little work to the hunt, but were well worth it as they did some hard work and hauled in some extra camp comforts we would not have enjoyed without them.
Dad and I with his New Mexico bull. It was his first ever elk and first ever animal taken with a bow. He came to a wallow at 1:30 on opening day, September 1st, and we were there waiting for him. What a memory!
BULLELK: What do you meant getting hit by a Grizzly???
Anyone know that story?
Nice job everyone. One thing I loves is I don't think there is a score on any of the pics. Nothing wrong with that but just that was pretty cool.
My son's 2015 Oregon Bull
Sage, I got attacked by a sow grizzly on August 31st, the second day of our archery eason. She put a pretty nasty bite on my bow arm. There is another post on here about it, so I don't hijack this thread.
Colorado Public Land DIY September 23rd
My Alberta elk from Sept 25. I have a friend that hunter hosted me. We were into elk almost everyday. We hiked 130 miles in the 14 days we hunted until I got him on the ground. 35 yard shot. 300 yard recovery(he ran full speed until he crashed).
70lb elite energy 35. 28 in draw. 125 gr. slick trick magnums. 450 gr. total arrow weight.
My brother and I went two for two in Wyoming. Public land, first archery elk for both of us. Yes, my brother is the one on the left!
Idaho Public land OTC solo hunt. 9/23/15
AZ, 60 yrds, spot n stalk, quartering away, clean pass through, 30 yrd recovery
Colorado. This herd bull was in a foul mood and running other bulls off. A perfect stalk, an aggressive bugle and one arrow created some new available "ladies" on the mountain. Awesome season spent with my daughter. This bull was for her, but our difference in kneeling height eliminated a shot opportunity for her even though she was right next to me.....
congratulations to all this year, some really great bulls . any elk with a bow is special. Only 361 days till the CO archery opener.
i think its 331, but everyones counting!!!!
Ramon gets the award for most stoked photo. I'm sure others were just as excited, but maybe they were exhausted by the time of the kill/photo, or they were thinking about the pack out.
Might get my crack in Mt. in November if my shoulder rehabs quickly.
First elk with a bow Wyoming
First elk with a bow Wyoming
"This bull was for her, but our difference in kneeling height eliminated a shot opportunity for her"
Matt D-You don't have to explain it to us. Way to pull a Costanza ;) Awesome bull!
Congrats on all the great elk. Here's a Montana bull taken on September 17th.
My Wyoming bull (on the left) taken on September 28th. The other bull I called in for a friend the next morning.
Got my horns back already! Check out the funky pedestal on this one. Had know idea when i shot him but it looks pretty cool.
Congrats to all great ELk on here!! Cool to see the traditional kills on here as well!! One family # bowhunters!!
Montana Public Land bull 9/24/15!
Was able to get out for a couple days here in Utah and got lucky on the extended hunt this morning!
As always public land, DIY, OTC...
Great job fellas. Love the photos.
