My 2015 Kansas Buck

I drew a tag for NW Kansas and had a great hunt. I hunted both public and some private. I passed a bunch of bucks and was actually about to shoot a 140" deer when I caught this one out of the corner of my eye. I shot him at 7:55am on Nov. 12th. There was a lot of chasing going on and he was the 12th. buck I saw that morning. Shawn

One more pic, that does the rack justice. I ended up shooting him on private. He gave me a 12 yard broadside shot as he turned to meet another buck head on. He went maybe 10 yards after the shot and stood, did the tail twitch and fell over. Center punched both lungs. His mass is what is most impressive to me, his left circumference at the base is 7.5"s and his right is 6.75"s. He also had few broken off points. Thanks guys! Shawn

Thanks guys, I had just watched 3 other very nice bucks come in and cut does out of a group of 3 does. This left one doe by me and she suddenly got nervous and walked by me and stood at my 7 o'clock. I thought, great I have live bait and as I was thinking that a very high and tall buck bum rushed her. I was trying to get a shot at him and had mouth bleated twice really loud and finally reverted to yelling. He stopped but was facing dead away and I was at full draw. That is when I noticed this guy standing facing me and looking right at me in the tree. I was ever so slowly swinging my bow to get on him when the first buck decided he was gonna challenge this buck. He snort wheezed a couple times and started for my buck. My buck let out a type of grunt growl and turned to meet him head on, that is when I shot. It was an amazing hunt, one I will never forget. Thanks again! Shawn

Actually at that point a calm came over me, before that when I was trying to get a shot at the other buck my leg was doing that little bounce thingy. I wish I could write down the whole morning from start to finish but it would be a small book to do so. Shawn

Cottontails, we don't have snow shoes where we hunt. Gotta travel about 20 miles or so to get to them and the population is low. Writer, I hosted a fundraiser for 10 years for St Judes and we had as many as 100 traditional bow hunters do this hunt for several years. 100 people for sit down dinner in my house and over 35 thousand dollars raised for the kids of St Judes.
