My son's lost and found gobbler story

A bad news, good news story comes full circle. My son Andrew shot his first gobbler April 4 last year. In spite of what looked like a good shot we could not find the bird after he ran off even though we looked for hours. In late May I was moving a stand and found his gobbler, or what was left of it. We had been within 75 yards of it but it had flown across a briar patch and was in a narrow creek bottom. I spent an hour on my hands and knees picking up individual beard strands and tail feathers. I tried to dry and straighten the tail fan but it was too far gone so I got a fan from a taxidermist buddy. I was able to put the beard back together and made a plaque to put it on. It's going to be a Christmas surprise. I'm probably more excited about giving it to him than he will be receiving it. Merry Christmas y'all!
