Chase had no idea this was to be the last goose of the season. He brought in the goose like a champ.

Right on Paul! Thanks for sharing your goose hunts. Quite a bit different than most of the other hunts we read about and we here on the Bowsite.

The end to a very successful goose season, with bow and arrow. This last goose makes it 30 geese in the last 5 years. Seven for me this year and one for Will (OTC Will).

Truck packed and heading home. Will make lots of goose jerky.

One interesting fact was that the 5 remaining geese that came to the decoys were all singles this last week. Looking for their mate, most likely.

See you next goose season if not before on another hunting adventure.

my best, Paul

Greats thread Paul. How is goose to eat? I have never tried it but may try to hunt them for the first time this year.

Thanks Nick, I hope to head down your way next January to chase the gray ghost again. Might be a good story in the future.

How is goose to eat" OK!

Sunday night's dinner will be goose. Here is one way to cook it.

I take both goose breast and slice it into three thin piece. The cut is parallel to the cutting board. I then marinate the meat with Kraft Catalina rich and tangy dressing for 24 hrs.

Cooking consists of fast grilling, to med rare.

Serve with potatoes, vegetables, and red wine.

Mark, I blame it on the cabin fever that seems to be going around this days. Yea, at least until turkey season starts, then everyone feels better.

Hunt, speaking of nice work, ie, your Alaska trip. Good going. Re-sighting in the single pin MGS made a big difference.

Craig, excellent practice for long beards. I plan on using my recurve bow again for the toms.

Hope all is well up there in the Cowboy State.

Thanks Paul. You're having too much fun! Believe it or not, we still have 15 geese here hanging around some open water below a dam. Must be cold when it's 25 below, feathers or not!

Swampy, Do it and then share the hunt with us.

SitO. I sent you my email for the recipe

Sage, I looked that up, ie,Terrien, looks interesting

Mt Man, Thanks

Iowa Archer, hard to stop hunting with a season still in progress.

Bear Track, I believe you. They do make -20 degree sleeping bags. Must be eating old moss to survive.

It is now snowing out up to 6 inch so far. glad I took down the blind and stored the decoys. Got to crank up the snowblower in the morning.

We had a big south wind and assume they thought they'd sail here just to find a foot of snow and no open water. End of April is early ice out and May 5-10, average ice out.

I just turned 25# of goose and duck meat into Jerky and when done, I was curious what the protein level might be compared to WT deer. I like taking jerky on my long elk hunting trips. Here is what I found for 3 oz of meat.

Goose meat:

Calories--201

Protein--24 grams

Fat==12 grams

Cholesterol==81 milligrams

WT deer meat:

Calories==134

Protein==26 grams

Fat==3 grams

Cholesterol==95 grams

All in the ball park being similar.. Looking forward being on the mountain side elk hunting and taking a break with a stick of goose/duck jerky in hand.
