Some of you western bow hunters might remember the hunting magazine, Western Bowhunter which was later titled, National Bowhunter and published by Walker Publicatons. ie, famed bow hunter, Doug Walker of California.
In 1998 I submitted my Colorado ram story, a Treasure Hunt, which was printed in the magazine. Attached picture and that is me in the upper right.
Today I was digging through my files and found this magazine in my archives and decided to reread my story and the other stories also.
My ram story and picture, of the 1997 hunt here in Colorado.
I continued to page through the 1998 magazine, observing how archery equipment had changed some when I came to this story, September Ritual.
I glanced down to see the author, and found, By Bill Allard (we know him a BB on Bowsite). From Salt Lake City Utah.
I believe I had also found Bowsite.com in 1997 but surely did not know if Bill was a member at that time.
Always interesting to find other bow hunters who have similar interest, connections and passions and where we might meet in person, on some distant hillside or on the pages of a outdoor magazine.
My best, Paul
That really neat, thanks for sharing Paul.
That's Awesome Paul. Thanks for sharing.
That is certainly very cool...
Thanks Paul.
Do you have an electronic version? I would love to read the story!
That is great! Very cool! I bet that brings back some great memories. Thanks for posting.
Mike
I used to get the magazine back in the day..
Ed
I was a subscriber to that mag.from the early days. It was a pretty good source of info for places or hunts a bowhunter might want to try. Doug Kittridge was one of the contributers if I remember correctly. Brings back some memories. Thanks....badbull
I agree - very interesting.
Is there any way you could perhaps photograph the pages of yours and Bill's stories so you could then post them in such a manner that we could read them.
I'm sure there are a lot of others that would also get a real kick out of reading them.
Thanks, Bob
Steve, sorry I do not have an electronic version. PM me your slow mailing address and I will make a copy from my paper file.
Thanks for your interest.
I hope Bill reads thread this and can make a few comments. The last time I talk with him, he was taking pictures of elk in the Colorado Rocky Mt Nat Park a year ago.
Paul
Inshart, I will try that asap. Paul
Paul,
I truly appreciate guys like you an Bill. Such a wealth of knowledge you both are. I sent Bill a text to tell him about this thread. My bet is he is somewhere on a Mountain without service but eventually he will see the text and hopefully respond.
Paul - Take pics of the pages and post them please. I'd enjoy reading the stories. I'm sure a few other guys would too.
lets see this works and is readable. My story and then Bill's.
Well, that seemed to work ok. I hope you do not need a spotting scope to read it.
Bill's story to follow asap.
my best, Paul
Paul, very cool sir. I'm glad you took the time to share it! Thank you!

That's great! I'm trying to wrap up at work and will check it out when I get home.
Thank you
And here is Bill's elk story:
last page of Bill's story.
I hope Bill gets a chance to read this as I know it will bring back some very good memories as it did for me.
God, 19 years ago! Time does fly by so grab up all of the gusto you can as this life is not a dress rehearsal for the next.
My best, Paul
That is great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Nice to reread those old articles. I too had a few stories published in this Mag.. Sad after Doug's passing they did not continue the publication.
Nice job Paul thanks Lewis
This is wonderful Paul, thank you so much for sharing. I enjoyed reading through both stories this immensely. You will be hard pressed to find two finer gentleman and bow hunters than Paul and Bill! Best of luck to you this spring Paul, looking forward to hearing and seeing you post about your turkey hunts soon. Take care.
A WAY overused word but it just seams fitting "AWESOME".
Thanks Paul, much appreciated.
Bob
Thanks for posting! Great story both of them. Best of luck with the turkeys! Hunt
Very cool, Paul! Amazing that the parchment it was printed on survived so many years!
:)
I'm bird hunting and can't read it on my phone but want to read the actual articles when we both get home.
BTW, my next Bowhunter article, featuring "you", will be in the June issue.
I'm like you Paul, I've saved some old articles from Doug's publication. Thanks for sharing.
I must have missed it, where is BB these days? I always enjoyed his posts.
Two classics!!!!
Just made my morning coffe turn into a half hour:)!
