Iowa Draw Results Are Up!

Iowa results are up. I will be hunting in Unit 8. Good luck!

Didn't draw unit 5 with three points. I was pretty sure I was going to draw. Looking for a hunt now.

Just bought a point this year. Drew a tag last year.

I drew zone 5 with 3 points, is it true that 3 points didn't guarantee a tag this year for bow?

I should have added drew Zone 6.

I was unsuccessful. Had 2 points and applied in zone 6.

Based on the draw results, this does seem accurate.. No one with 2 points drew this year

I guess everyone decided to cash in their points this year. Zone 5 Bow apps were up around 200 from last Year.

Iowa is a hard one to figure, as there is no expiration on points. This is the first year where 3 points didn't guarantee a tag in zone 5. This trend will continue as there is s glut of point holders. I would think at some point the trend will correct as people tire and drop out.

Don't count on it. Point creep is alive and well in every state I apply for tags. FYI, I used to consistently draw Iowa (Zone 5 or Zone 6) every other year.

I have 4pts going into 2017......

One of these years I am gonna go for it on a Whitetail buck hunt!

Guys skipped a year or two waiting for EHD areas to recover.

I moved to iowa in 07 cause I wanted to hunt here every year. In that time I have saw and spoke with a ton of nonres bow hunters. Here is the two biggest reasons I see guys not fill there tag. Number one is if you're not on stand in November during daylight hours you are not going to fill your tag. If you're trying to kill a buck there is no excuse. That is the first question I ask guys when they ask how to kill a big iowa buck. They always rattle off a long list of reasons not to be on stand. Number two is scouting, just don't do it. In November that buck has no idea where he going next, so how are you going to figure it out? Grab the downwind side of a pinch point and stay in the stand. If you feel you have burned that spot out look on Google Earth and pick the next pinch and hunt that spot the next day. The only reason to get out of your stand during daylight is if the wind changes or you kill. I know it sounds to simple but I watch guys do it every year. Good luck to all that drew.
