We are counting down to hunting seAson. I am in the midst of fine tuning my gear and I think it may be time to chuck the razor and bring out the most manly accessory you can have....the beard! Have you started on your beard?

My wife won't let me shave my beard... Ever.

Pretty sure she doesn't like my face.

So yep, I've started it!

I started mine 2 years ago before elk season and haven't shaved since. I trim it to keep it under control but my wife wont let me shave it.

Does one go with the well kept beard or wild and scruffy?

Have found several better ways to pack out dead cats that, you know... I found...

I'm thinkin more along the lines of trimming the beard in to a Fu'ed Man Chu....

13-Jul-16
The last time I shaved was right before leaving for my 2011 elk hunt. The beard and the elk hunting lifestyle are 2 parts of the same thing.

I do shave my neck though to look professional at work.

14-Jul-16
I don't shave while I'm in the mountains but it comes off pretty quick when I get back, can't stand facial hair.

I start grow something different every mid-July for my hunting fall.

This year I think I will go back to the Foo-man-Choo mustache, been like 3-4 years since I had that 'hunting season look'.....

Off the day after my last hunt in December.

Good luck, Robb

14-Jul-16
Where did it go? Mine started in 1977 and was only shaved off once... on the day before I left for Idaho to hunt some elks.

My two little boys freaked out when they came around the corner and saw an unrecognizable face in the bathroom. Since then it has been a permanent fixture albeit of different lengths, and gradually changing color.

From: bird dog
14-Jul-16
I had to shave mine last Friday due to being gone for annual training but I got all of my guys in the EMT section to grow out their field mustache with me just to keep our faces from completely being shaven. After next week no shaving until after elk season.

It is a seasonal thing for me. I start growing it about mid August. I keep it until spring. I don't like one in the summer. Sweaty workouts in the summer and hot weather are not a good combination for me.

I'm with cnelk on this one. Depends what you call "beard". My year round look is similar to his first pic. 'cept more of a "goatie" than full beard. Was just a mustache man in my youth. But got sick of the hassle of shaving around the chin, so just let it grow out and kept it trimmed. Tried to really let it grow into a mountain man type beard once, but to tell you the truth once it got longer I hated the feeling when the whiskers started to curl(and was too hot in summer), so went back to a shorter trim. For me it's more of a comfort/low maintenance type of thing instead of a "looks" thing. ;-)

From: rick allison

My kids had never seen my without a beard, albeit trimmed short. When my daughter was in college I cut it down to a "goat" one brutally hot summer...I'm a welder 'n enough was enough...lol.

I met my wife and daughter at the local ball park for am American Legion baseball game. My wife never even noticed until my daughter said something!

That was about 15 years ago, and I grew it out last year. Hmmm...my previous brown beard had mysteriously morphed into snow camo....

Today I keep the goat and grow the stubble out for hunting season.

Ironbow, I have the same problem and my wife hates it when I grow it. We were on a trip with our best friends a couple weeks ago and my buddy made a comment about him needing to shave every day (cut at me), where I reminded him I have to blow dry my hair every day (he doesn't). What he called me can't be recorded here but was hilarious. If I have to choose I will take a full head of hair.

Jeff and Jordan have very respectable and professional beards.

I wear mine just like P@tF. Enough to keep the sun off, but not enough to be really hot.

Ed's is just plain out of control. Retirement seems to be doing you well.

Ed, if you're ever going through airport security and they pass you through the metal detector a half-dozen times and you're down to your knickers trying to figure it out and the damn thing is still beeping, pat that thing down. There'll probably be a hatchet or a multi-tool lost in that jungle somewhere. Maybe a silver dollar.

Lung$hot, take a #3 clippers and trim your stash, chin, and the angles on your jaw. Don't trim your cheeks. After a couple months, you'll have a nice short, even beard.

I may have screwed up.... I have suggested that I wouldn't shave until I shot a deer. I could go out and shoot a deer but there are none around I'd be willing to put my tag on! I will be pretty rough looking by September!!

From: easeup
05-Dec-16
no joke guys......this is the truth..... Nearly all hunting here in TX is by lease of private land of which everyone calls the deer lease down here. Years ago we had about 10 guys partnered up to lease a larger piece for hunting. Now we had leased the same property the year prior from the same landowner with no issues. on our second year lease there everything was going good until the landowner showed up at the hunt camp one morning to find all the lease hunters with beards. We got our immediate eviction notice to get off his property and take all our stuff. When asked what the problems was, the reply..." there will be no bearded hunters on this place"

Thank God for his bionic ear, or I would be stuck going clean-shaven for another seven years until he heads off to collegeā€¦
