I have the opportunity to go on an exotics hunt in the Texas Hill Country the weekend of Oct. 1st. I have the option of harvesting either a Trophy Axis Buck or a Trophy Fallow Buck. The person taking me is paying for 100% everything... including Taxidermy and meat processing.
The question I have is... which would you rather harvest. The Axis or the Fallow. I'm having trouble deciding... I know first world problems... but in all seriousness... I need some opinions.
I will be bow hunting. They said I can take a rifle if I want... and I will... but only if I'm not able to make my harvest within the first few days I'm there and its down to the wire.
Thanks Guys

He's one of my subcontractors and hes trying to get back on my good side. :) commercial construction has its perks.

Neither are easy, it may come down to which one you get a good opportunity at. I think both have very cool head gear. I've hunted exotics several times and I've taken neither of them, nor ever had an opportunity, even though both species were present. Good luck, you'll have fun.

I think Fallow deer are cool looking.

What ranch? Agree with Knife2sharp, if you aren't real picky, take which one trips your trigger and gives you the opportunity.
Best of luck on your decision.

Axis deer are beautiful animals. When I hunted exotics I passed on many fallow to have an opportunity at an axis, and I'm glad I waited!

And a full body or at least a half mount to show it off! I did mine in a half mount to take up less space and still show off the beautiful color.

Thanks for chiming in guys. I'm going to go for a half mount in order to save some space. Depending on what the adrenaline is telling me to do at the time.... I will shoot whichever I feel most comfortable with.
Does anyone have experience eating fallow? How does it compare to Axis (which is great)?

Both are very nice trophies- but axis meat is better of the two.

Anyone have any first hand experience for a good place to go for archer blackbuck ? I'd like to find someplace for this coming winter.
Thanks in advance
