Pop-up or Ghillie Suit?
Whitetail Deer

What do you prefer? I have tried the pop up blind on the edge of the field and so far I have had very little luck. I get see deer at 60 yards but any closer and they are on to me. I set the blind up 5 weeks before season and they still avoid it.
Do you brush in the blind completely?
A Ghillie suit will give you more mobility and you can play the wind better, but you still have to draw the bow and make movement. Much care is needed but can be fun, eye to eye with the deer.
The blind is not brushed in. In years past, I have covered with pine branches but still had issues getting busted.
These old does are driving me crazy and I want to get one in the worst way!!!
For a cross bow the suit is fine, mine has so many things sticking out from it I had trouble trying to get a clear shot with conventional bow. it is great duck hunting, I carry it with my recurve and longbow but seldom use it. mine is the one from sportsmensguide.com and is comprised of strings , it also snags everything it touches in the woods like leaves , pine needles and small and large twigs adding to the camo as you walk.
r-man, i agree with the strings attracting lots of stickers. I carry mine in and put it one where I might hunt. Most often, I just wear the top when I do.
I cut off most of the strings on the inside arm of my bow arm to prevent string slap.
I am sure there are some more expensive suit what might not attract sticks as much.

For field edges throw a one horn decoy out in front of you. Groundblind or ghilli it will keep the attention off of you.
I have a couple grhilles that I'm going to try this year. For early season you need a ASAT leafy suit, fantastic, deer look right through it and you don't snag it on everything in the woods.
ASAT leafy suit. I have not used a ghillie, but people say they are heavy and hot. May be good for a late hunt if you have a long season, and hunting on your own farm. Like in Michigan, where I hunt on the wife's family farm.

Well, I had a plan but it didn't work. She was the lead deer tonight and was 5 yards from my shooting lane in the standing corn when she stops backs up and walks down the corn row right at me. She was 10-12 yards head on doing the stomp and snort before she bailed out. All I can guess is that she caught a little wind or saw my back and chair. I was sitting right in the middle of the row. Not the open row, I cut some corn to be in the middle of the stalks.
This doe has my number. I will be in the weed patch next to the corn Wednesday after work!!! I'm guessing she will not tolerate much more pressure before she leaves or goes nocturnal, but I have to try one more time.
corn is tuff to hunt, unless u can get um before they get in it. some places I found the deer ont leave it all day, make a corn stalk blind and kick her arse
I have a leafy set from a diff company and use it 90% of the time, with so much green around me for the most part of the year I don't know how well that would work here. I guess I need to see it in person.
R-man, ASAT stands for "all seasons all terrains" it will work great in the green, remember deer see in greys. Go to ASAT web site and look at their test pics.
ASAT leafy suit really works
She has got you pegged with blinds and/or camo.
Why don't you make a cardboard tractor, put on overalls and a straw hat and sit near the corn? Farmer camo!
they see a red laser good , chased a doe in the backyard with one. (red) and a few squirrels and dogs and my cats
She got me again.
Tonight I had a perfect wind for a new spot to get this doe. It is close to where she busted me Sunday night. I got behind a rock pile the farmer put there after picking rock this spring. I was next to a big oak, in tall weeds with a shooting lane. At the end of the night, I packed up nice and quiet, took two steps and she took off snorting. She was 10 minutes late to the party. I'm going to give it a week to cool off and make a new game plan.
I have set ground blinds in field edges without any brushing in. I do this a few weeks before season and they pay little attention to it by the time I hunt it.
I have a bow hunting ghillie suit. The left arm and chest have no strands, just material so string does not catch.
I do not put it on until I get to my "stand" location. Because as stated above, the suit does get caught in everything.
With it on I disappear in the woods. I do have a hard time getting the draw on deer.
I have used buck decoys, does decoys and they seem to spook the does. A buck will always check the decoy out, but the does go to snorting and stomping. I quit using them because the does always blow the whole set-up.
