Toyo or Hankook Tires ?

I own a 2015 GMC Sierra and in need of tire , don't do much off road but live in Pa and we sometimes get a fair amount of snow . The two tires I am looking at are the Toyo Open Country AT and the Hankook Dynapro AT . Was wondering if anyone has had either one of these tires and your thought on either one or any other tire that might be better .
Just go with BF Goodrich A/T and you wont be disappointed.
I just went through the tire search and after looking at just about every tire out there and I needed up with Michelin LTX M/S 2 for 118 a piece. At NTB. Go look at tire rack .com and research the tires, they have reviews of them by actual owners, really helps.
I use nothing but Toyos on my rigs never a flat and best traction you can have without studs. I had a BF Goodrich tire blow up inside my bronco from heat it not only took my side window it took a 5x10 window out house it was parked in front of.
Of those two, I'd go with the one I could get the best price on after mounting and balance.
Both tires are comparable and fine.
In my neighborhood, the Hankooks are generally the better buy.
I've had great luck with the Toyo Open Country AT's
Have had great luck with the toyos
I had nothing but problems with Toyo. I've used BF Goodrich A/T for over twenty years, but got tired of going through tires so fast, only about 23,000 miles. Switched to Pro Comp and lasted 53,000 on that first set, but when I tried to get another set, couldn't find them so ended up trying Toyo. Every time it rained I was sliding all over the road. Driving in snow was worse than the rain. Driving back from MI last November, one of the toyo's separated and bubbled up like a balloon while I was going 70 on the interstate, of course in the middle of nowhere.
Replaced them with Nitto A/T. No problems yet, but if you can get Pro Comp A/T, try them.
Open Country AT's were on the wear bars at 30K on my truck, the H/T is a lasting much better.
I got 65,000 on my last set of M-55s
I'm also in PA and have had the Hancook Dynapro AT. To complaints with them thus far. Shop I have locally sells a lot of them.
I doubt there is a better 'all around' tire than a Toyo M-55. I had some Open Country's and they were ok but for the money the Hankooks may be a better buy.
I've used Toyo A/Ts ever since the Michelins got so high.
They are best tires I've owned. I don't see how these guys are getting 20-30K out of them. I(no exaggeration)got 80k out of my last set of A/Ts. Put on at 52k, replaced at 132k.
There are 2 versions of the A/T, the P and LT. The LT have a much lower tread life. The tread is the same so I'm assuming its the rubber compound that wears faster on the LTs. I use the P tire because I'm mainly highway, some off road during hunting season and some snow in the winter. They have been all over the gravel roads in TN while hunting and also spent time on the switch back roads in CO.
I've never tried the Hankooks so I can't comment. I stick with the A/Ts because they give me the same performance as the Michelin's at a much cheaper price.
Never tried Hankook, but the Toyos have given me the best mileage I ever had from any tires. That takes in lots of years and hundreds of thousands of miles since I used to put 60/75k on my trucks each year.
Check out Goodyear duratracs. Got about 5k on 315 70 17s so far and am very happy.
I have toyo a/t tires on my truck...they are ok but this is better options...wear is good...but traction on hard surfaces in rain kinda sucks
What type of driving are you going to be doing the most?
I use Toyo R/T's and love them.
LBshooter , mostly highway not much off-road . Do have to deal with wet weather and snow .
PA is one of the WORST states when it comes to tire wear. Even more specifically, western PA. Tire manufacturers consider it one of the worst areas in the country, so getting the mileage out of a set of tires that they are rated for isn't likely going to happen.
The longest lasting tires I've ever had were Michelins. I'd have gotten another set last winter, however there was a shortage of them in my area of PA and no one had them. So, I bought the Hankook Dyanpro AT's and have been pleased with their performance thus far. Rotate them every oil change so wear has been very even. I figure if I can get 2 years out of my tires I'm doing pretty good.
FYI...... You couldn't pay me to put BF Goodrich AT's on my truck. Junk. Hate the tread pattern too. Worst tires I ever had. As for Toyo's, never used them, as very few places in my area carries them.
General grabber 2's , Firestone destination , and Goodyear are all quality. I had Goodyear rt/ s which are no longer made but I had 65 k on them and never a flat tire. Had they been available I would have bought them again.
Check out Goodyear duratracs. Got about 5k on 315 70 17s so far and am very happy.
I live in eastern Pa, but travel all over the country to hunt. Agreed totally with worst roads in the country.
I am on my second set of toyo open country A/T and I highly recommend them. I am hard on tires and have had no issues and no failures
I have used the Hankook and had great luck with them. I tried others but keep coming back to them. They wear well and do ok in the mud. Not sure on snow. Matt
hankooks on both of my trucks 55000 miles on my tacoma tires 3000 miles on my chevy really pleased with them
BFG KO2 are awesome, you should check them out.
Goodoint grunt and gobble. Rotate them every 5-7 thousand miles. Makes a big difference in how long they last. Check pressure monthly.
I am a Toyo man myself.
I have Summer rims & A/T's that go on Mid May
I have Winter rims & M/T's that go on Mid Oct.
I rotate once in-between switching out for the new season.
I keep my trucks to about 95,000 miles then buy a new truck, these Toyo's are on my 2010 F350.
Good luck, Robb
Thanks for all the help guys , appricate it . The guys that are running the Toyo Open Country how are they in wet weather ?
having owned both brands and models the OP inquired about, I would choose the hankook over the toyo.
I used to run BFG's on all my trucks. Then came across the General Grabber AT2s. Great tire, long lasting and when compared to the BFG ATs the Grabber's received higher ratings.
Recently switched over to the Nitto Trail Grappler's on my '14 Silverado, love them but they are a mud tire and I believe you inquired about ATs. Nitto also makes the Terra Grappler which is a highly rated AT.
Another AT or should I say hybrid AT/MT tire is the Goodyear Duratrac...they too have good ratings across the board as well.
Guess its a matter of preference, just do your research and make the best decision based off the #s...good luck!
Can't go wrong with Toyo ATs
I have the Toyo Open Country A/T's and like them. I have a little over 30,000 miles on them now and they still look good. My only complaint is that the size I have are 10 ply, which made my truck ride alot rougher. Solid tire though.
No experience with the ATs, but the Hankook MTs are the worst tire I have ever owned. I've been running Duratracs with success.
I have 44,000 on the Hankooks on my Grand Cherokee. Still have another 10k or better of tread, good traction in snow and mud. They get a little noisy, only negative so far.
To be fair, my Jeep has quadradrive, so the traction may be a function of that system as much as the tires.
I would get another set in a heartbeat.
I'm running the Hankooks on my 2007 Yukon. Have probably 25K on them. Rotated them once. So far so good. Still have easily half the tread left and dont seem to be cupping like some of my past tires. Like them better than the Goodyears that came on it becasue they are quieter. Tried Generals and they didnt last. Pirellis I liked, but they didnt last all that well and were more expensive than the Hankooks..
Had really bad tread life with BFG A/T tires on two trucks. Just bought a set of Pro Comp A/T tires that are rated for 60k ..we will see but the are very deep in the treads.and they are on a 3/4 ton Diesel. Did really well on my archery elk hunt here in Colorado.
I have the Toyo A/T's and zero complaints. I went on some pretty rough roads in CO last year and no popped tires. Good on snow and wet roads.
