Two recommendations. One is right here on Bowsite. Just click on the elk icon and read to your heart's content. The other is sign up for the University of Elk Hunting at elk101.com.

Welcome to Elk hunting.... Archery elk is incredibly fun, and hard. Lots of really good hunting available. Do some research and decide on a few places you may want to try. Then work on getting a tag. Rule #1... Hunt where there are elk.

Keep your expectations low re tagging out and you won't be disappointed. The wilds of the western US is some of the most gorgeous country on god's green earth. That you can expect and enjoy every time you visit. Get in great shape, learn how to call, and shoot your bow well. The learning curve is steep, but that also means that once you get your feet wet a time or two you will know infinitely more than you know now, and can use that hard-earned knowledge to inform future efforts.

Have fun on your first trip, because after that your next trip will be for revenge!

You got some good responses- but most had to guess what to tell you. Give us enough information about you to give an appropriate response- your second post could have been included with your first - along with how long have you been hunting/ bowhunting? Where are you located? Age/ condition? Price range? Solo, with buddy? Are they experienced? Are you prepared to be obsessed by ELK?!?!?

Hang out here and ask questions as they arise. There are a lot of talented and helpful bowhunters here willing to share advice. Also, go to elk 101 and sign up for University of Elk Hunting. You will be way ahead of the game with the info provided there. Good luck and welcome to the greatest hunting around!!

Start here - http://cpw.state.co.us/learn/Pages/EHU.aspx

In conjunction with start right at the top of the elk section here on bowsite. All the info you need to get started, can be gleaned from these two sources. After you have done a couple of months of research, come here and ask specific questions.
