I have had success with "brushed in" ground blinds for elk. Has anyone used a blind in the open successfully? I have a couple open areas with water/wallows but no natural cover in bow range. Any thoughts?

Have a few times and they don't seem to pay attention to it.

I agree with Lou. I've put them up in the open and had elk walk right by the same day.

My hunting partner was sitting by a waterhole for elk and had a bull moose sneak up from behind and stick his snout in through the rear window.

Ground blinds have their place for sure! Water sources, trails leading to destinations, natural mineral licks, etc especially where few suitable trees are available for a treestand. Areas with heavier hunting pressure may require more brushed in concealment than other less hunted areas. You can't go wrong either way with some sort of concealment natural to the area hunted! Good luck!
