Never considered wearing them but highs are low 20's and below 0 windchill. Has anyone worn coveralls for long hikes (5 miles or more)? I am not worried about being hot/cold just curious if they are miserable and uncomfortable? Thanks!

For me they're standard wear when it gets cold here. I pack them and don't wear them going in but for extended sits, I wouldn't be without them.

I've used them for 3-4 mile hikes when I was guiding rifle elk a long time ago. Wasn't too bad but I had a high tolerance for discomfort back then. Anymore I prefer insulated bibs and pack them rather than wearing.

My daughter wears them. Typically anything more than a mile and she packs them in.

Pack them on your back and then put them on otherwise you'll roast

X2 Chip. If you sweat then you are done no matter what you have on. I was sweating today in 16 degree weather as I poked around after I sat for awhile.

Chip nailed it. You'll roast on a mile plus hike unless you are still hunting. But we all know that ain't hiking. :)

Whoa! If they're insulated, they're not for hiking! If they're thin, that something else. I walked across Kotzebue in my insulated coveralls last week (about 1/2 mile to my destination) and I was hot by the time I got there. It was -10 ambient and -27 wind chills. I was late getting back to work on the way back and had to jog and I was dying... sweating like a pig. I had to unzip them.
When I hunt with them and use them in a distant ground blind/treestand, I put them in a backpack and put them on when I get there.

I pack them in along with boot blankets for long sits.

If its real cold I prefer bibs and a parka. Warmer and easier to move around in. Pack them in though. Don't wear them unless you aren't walking very far.
Sometimes if I'm not walking too far I will wear the bottoms and pack the parka. But four miles would be a whole lot. Specially if theres snow on the ground.

I'm a big insulated coveralls fan when it comes to treestand hunting...so much so, I had a pair custom made by Grey Wolf Woolens (Wolfskin fabric) several years ago. Those coveralls are my "go-to" outer layer when the temps dip below freezing.
That said, I cannot imagine actually wearing them while hiking? Thinking that could get miserable in short order. I don't even wear them while walking period. They don't come out of the pack until I'm at my tree.
