Follow along as I do extreme form alterations on the duiker for a one of a kind mount. I will also show a few alterations on the leapord and how I build the tree.

I know how much work this alteration took from a standing form to laying down, so I am always anxious to see how a master handles it.

I like to widen the legs and shoulders. I test fit the skin then mark on the form how much I can adjust.

I didn't take a lot of pictures of the leopard alteration but wanted to focus more on the Duiker dead mount. Here is the finish leopard pose with the open mouth and head change.

Dennis am curious why you would order a leopard form with a left turn head and turn it to the right, do they not make them in right turn, just asking ?

Thanks guys. I'll be finishing the thread soon.

Elstone, Great question. I choose the form that is usually in the best body posture and size. I choose this one because the leg position was close to the finished mount. It is easier to move the head, neck, and turn the body than move the legs with support rods.

Dennis How long does it take you to put together a mount like the one in first image? Also, how does a hunter get a hair-on hide back from Africa in good shape? I hear various things that a hunter is or isn't supposed to do pre-taxidermist - salt, or don't salt but freeze, but you can't do that with something coming from overseas, correct?

Sorry for the delay... busy week!

Lets start the alterations on the duiker. With alterations like this, I like to just dive in with a few cuts and get the general body shape down. Then, I sculpt in the final details. I take a few measurement for reference but the final test fit will tell all.

At this point I need to finish the limb. This will help me fit the duikers body perfectly to the limb. I want the belly to look like it has weight and a limp, dead, real look.

Another great piece and highly talented demonstration Dennis, Thanks for sharing it with us. Anymore, I try not to think of how much time goes into some of the alterations and habitat work since its apparent how little per hour it can actually be. I know for me one certainly has to enjoy doing it all too. :-)
