I've attached a picture and write up about the Potential World Record Archery Elk which will be on display at the P&Y Convention in early April. The Big Game display is breath taking and a highlight of every convention! The link is in the write up if you want to attend. See you in St. Louis. C
Great story behind it, too. No army of scouts and guides hounding it all summer, no drama, just a regular guy hunting DIY. The haters can probably find something wrong with it, but congrats to him!
Awesome Bull, the G3's on that thing are incredible.
Great bull, great hunt! Congrats to the MT hunter!!!
Really good for our sport to have these new (or pending) world records!!!

I think the score will hold up the B&C guys have had tapes all over it Hell of a bull
Another year or two and that bull will be something.....LOL
We'll find out in a few weeks.......awesome bull!
Just before every bull steps out, I dream he's one like this. This guy's dream came true. Congrats to the hunter!
Awesome bull! Any field photos?

I heard he put his "Under 400-inches" tag on it by mistake. :)
Any word on how old this bull was? Magnificent animal!! Congrats to him!
Just knowing these animals are out there is enough for me! Gets the blood flowing! Congrats to the hunter on an amazing animal!
Congrats to the hunter!
Hard to believe that much antler grows in just a few months.
So, it's been officially scored by B&C. Why would it NOT be the new P&Y record if he enters it. That would be the only hiccup, no?
Stud of a bull and congrats to the hunter!
Outstanding... Incredible bull.
What a bull. Can't wait to see it in St Louis.
Damn nice
Did you get in on the scoring Charlie?
Good luck, Robb
No, I live in Rhode Island and this bull was killed in Montana. The elk here in Rhode Island never qualify for P&Y minimum:)
Shrewski: Any potential World Record must be measured by a team of Panel Measurers to be "Certified Official". This will take place about a month before the P&Y Convention in St.Louis this April 5-8!
"Awesome Bull, the G3's on that thing are incredible."
What about the G2's, G5's, and G6's? ;^) Magnificent bull. Can't wait to see it and the other specimens on display.
Does anyone happen to know how wide it is? What an animal....
You can Google the score sheet! It shows 41 6/8" Inside spread.
Super awesome elk. And taken by an average joe which makes it even better in my book!
Crazy how world records continue to be broken. Congrats to the hunter!!
"What about the G2's, G5's, and G6's? ;^) "
Yes, great tine length on all points but I've seen lots of big Bulls with short G3's
I poked around and found this field photo...that thing could reach back and scratch his buddy's forehead behind him!
We are in the middle of the good old days guys. Yes, there were times when it was probably easier hunting due to less pressure but it is amazing to see animals like this in this day where guides are paid to baby sit animals and there are 25 trail cameras on every water hole. I am hoping to shoot one that is even half that size. Congrats to the hunter and like others said, it is awesome to see it happen to a guy hunting DIY.
Really great that he was DIY and also solo. Gives hope to the average guy that there is a chance. Like winning the lottery, but somebody has to win, right??!!
Mark, I'm not sure there was ever "less pressure" during our lifetimes. Maybe better access before the leasing craze, which spread hunters around more. In 1970 there was a peak of 40 million hunters in the U.S. Since 2000 it's been relatively flat at between 12.5M and 14M, depending upon how the count is done (some counts include licenses bought by the same hunter in multiple states as "hunter numbers"). but back then we could knock on doors so lots of today's public land pressure was spread around over private.
Back in 1981 I had permission to hunt elk on 8 contiguous ranches. Now every one is either leased by outfitters or locked-up tight as a "preserve". That's what has changed more than anything.
wow! just wow! what an animal!
and no party of guides sitting on it! Super happy for this guy!!!!!!!
When will it be official?
Extra special that it didn't have a price on it's head, and it came from a State that generally isn't known for it's outstanding genetics. Mr. Felix had to have icewater in his veins. When is the write-up due?
Backpack Hunter: Answered above!
The fact that there was ZERO mention of mossback or a crew of hounders with him made me like his story and success even MORE! No guides, no auction tag, and no SFW $$$ = priceless!
Yeah, great bull, but could use a bit more mass...... so long it looks spindly..... =D
Hard to believe nobody really knew he was in the area. But it's a big place, he must have had some hole he could crawl into and disappear to get so big and old...... or maybe quite literally "slipped off the reservation"..... heheheheh..... either way..... what a monster. Wish I was going to be there at the convention and see it in person.
WRT genetics..... if I recall not long ago Mr Adams had the #1 and #2 bulls and both were from MT.
