I was told by a tech at a bow shop that Elite bows should be shot at peak weight - I want to shoot a 65 pounder - most of the bows I'm finding for sale peak at 70 lbs. - any reason to avoid getting a 70 pounder and turning it down to 65?

Thanks,

Lee

Not true.

That statement was more true 10 years ago then today. Scooby

What they said. I have two Elites, a 2013 Pulse and a 2016 Impulse 31...both with 65lb limbs. Due to current shoulder problems, one is now set at 62#, the other at 60#. They both shoot great.

As Scooby points out, there was a time when a bow's efficiently was best at peak weight. Not a factor these days.

at one time that was true, however we are talking 20 years back. However tha generally is not the case at this point. I have tuned probably 25-30 Elite over the last ten years, many my own and I wouldn't have no issue backing them down a 1 or 2.

The only exception maybe the new elite options that cam out this year. With the band aid limb pad they put on and the lack of travel in the draw stop slot there has been serverl report of them not haven't enough let off when they are backed down. However if you not looking at an option ( which I wouldn't ) any of the others will back down just fine.

Sounds good guys - with them having 60, 65 and 70 lbs peak weights it made me wonder. Seemed plausible

Just read the tech manual - says to not back off the limb bolts more than 2 turns - is there 10 pounds of adjustment in 2 turns??

I would think only about 6#s but they have to cover their butts. Scooby

What your tech told you was true, if you take a 70lb bow and back it down to 65lbs your letoff will be around 75% instead of the standard Elite letoff of around 85%.
