Congrats to all! I had my son put in for a reduced price cow/calf tag as well, hoping he'd at least draw that one. Didn't think he'd have a snowball's chance of drawing a general license 4 yrs in a row...he drew both!
Lou, if your general license was your first choice, you can't buy a PP this year. If it wasn't your 1st choice, you can buy it starting 1 Jul.

wyo, isn't there an option when you enter the draw to purchase a point at the same time? I believe in the special its labeled as "special draw with preference point and it cost the 50 dollars more. I thought the point that you'd buy at that time would be good for next years draw? If not then you could buy when the points only sale is?

Yes, any point you buy now is good for next year, does no good this year. But if you draw now you don't get the point, you get your $50 refunded. If you didn't draw, or buy a point now, you can buy it in the summer. At least that's my understanding.

Idyllwild: you were right about your prediction! It took 2 points to draw a General tag in the regular pool this year. Any less than 2 points and you were "Unsucc".

Any year you draw your 1st choice, you will not be awarded a PP for that year. If you included payment for a PP when you applied, that $50 will be credited back to the credit card you used when you applied. You are also not eligible to buy a PP when they go on sale in July.

Can't draw if you're names not in the hat! My son applied for a super tough unit with max points & what the hell-o he drew it!!!! Sweet Jesus we're heading to WY. Looks like WY & ID bulls this year! We love the prep that goes in before the hunt, should be a blast! Good luck everyone!

Mossy, no, you can't get a PP until next year. If you draw a tag, you lose all PPs and cant gain any additional PPs for that year.

Nada. I wasn't expecting it, but was hoping. 1 point in the Special draw for a unit that took us 4.5 points to draw in 2015 in the regular price.

Looks like the top 6 or 8 highest demand hunts are still in the single digit odds with max points, either special or regular. And really no likelihood for that to change for a long, long time. May be time for a strategy change in the next couple years!

Dang odds went way down this year! Special with zero was close to 100% last year and it went to zero this year and only 60% in random. I'm gonna have to find a back up spot next year I think.

elkstabber, there was actually a 4.36% chance of drawing with 1.5 points. Creep did blast right through the 1.5 points column though - and that'll continue for the 2.5 points column as there's so fewer apps that don't have even points.
And the general random is now down to 14.45%. The 6-year average is a loss of 1.3% per year. It's quickly getting to the point that you might as well put in for a LE draw if you don't have a shot at the General Tag.

The way things are trending, NoWiser probably has it pretty close. As you say, you got pretty lucky. Random License draw odds this year was 14.45%. Only way to increase those odds is to accumulate PP's. However, only way to do that is to not draw your 1st choice. That would mean going "x" number of years without hunting before you gain enough PP's to be drawn in the PP draw. Of course, that would mean your PP's go back to zero.
A caveat to all this is the increase in license/PP fees recently passed by the Wyoming legislature. If enough people decide they don't want to play the game anymore, the odds of drawing will increase. Time will tell.

The issue with the Wyoming general tag is that in addition to a boatload of new applicants, people who are drawing their limited entry tags are seeing the futility of trying to draw them again, so they're going after the general instead. Even with the price increase I doubt point creep will slow down. You can probably expect a reasonable chance to draw again in 2021.

Nowiser and wybullshooter make good points. I guess we can expect CO OTC units to get even more crowded now that the General tags in Wyoming won't be as easy to get.
