I know you can return your tag for an 80% refund, even if you draw a limited draw permit. I did it last year when I drew MT, NM, and AZ! I think I kept my points but I am not positive, going to check on that!

Rumor has it (WapitiBob?) that AZ is likely to post before NM deadline this year, FWIW.

I just checked my MT points and elk are zero so looks like I lost my bonus points when I drew the permit. The way I see it is I got an 80% refund on the General Elk Combo License ($846x.8=$676.8) MT kept the application fee ($10) and the Elk Permit fee ($4)

You can turn it in u til August 1. If you draw general you keep your bonus point. At least as of a couple years ago.

Scoot if you do draw your permit area and choose to return your tag you will loose your points. But if you do not draw your permit area and return your tag you still keep your points. I have been hunting MT for over twenty years now lots of good public land available but expensive to return a tag. It will cost you over two hundred dollars.

Also new this year if you apply for an archery only permit you must buy the archery stamp when you apply or your application will be thrown out.

Thanks guys. This one is a no-brainer for me right now (not so for my buddy though). I've got no points (my buddy has 6). Sounds like if I return the LE permit would cost me the one point I would have gotten if I chose to get the general tag if I didn't draw my LE permit. I can live with that if I'm lucky enough to draw NM. Thanks again for the help, fellas!
