I'm working through the numbers on some arrows that I would like to build. This will be my first time building my own arrows. I'm running the numbers through Archer's Advantage and I would like your opinions please... mainly to see if I'm putting things together correctly. I'm looking shooting a 30" Strother Infinity at 72 lbs. I'm looking at 29" Black Eagle Spartan shafts (250), R Nock and bushings (19 grains), inserts (28 grains), brass insert weight (30 grains), and 125 grain bullet points. I will be using 3 fletch AAE Max Stealth vanes (27.6 grains) with a 4" wrap (5 grains). This gives me a 524.2 grain arrow with an "optimum spine" according to Archer's Advantage. Did I do this correctly? Thanks for your help.

How much does the raw shaft weigh per inch- grains?

A 250 will give you 0 issues. You can basically do anything you'd like with it, within reason, and be just fine.

It'll be overspined which is great. Best of luck.

The shaft is 10 gpi.

I would hunt with it. Heavy arrow. High FOC. Bow should tune easy.

Shaft- 290 gr. (29"x 10 gr.); Nock & bushing 19; Insert 28; Insert weight 30; Tip 125;

Total Weight 492

I am coming up with a different answer than you.

OP added vanes and wrap weight also. The setup sounds hard hitting and should do the job on anything.

Sounds like a hammer!

Just curious ... Why did you choose to go with a 30 grain insert weight instead of just shooting a heavier broad head?

06-Mar-17
High Country, most do so because the selection of BH's is much greater at 125gr than heavier weights.

High Country- wyobullshooter is correct. The choice of broadheads is the main reason. However, I looked at the 30 grain insert weight because it put me into the "optimum" versus "slightly stiff" category on the Archers Advantage software, in addition to the extra weight and FOC. Win-win in my mind.

Thanks everyone for your insight. It looks like I've figured out what arrows I'm going to build... now I need to get ordering the stuff.
