New Mexico unit2 info

Hello all, I was fortunate enough to draw unit 2. This will be my first venture into new mex. Let me first say, that I'm not looking for any specific spots, just some general info. I'm coming from the east coast, so basically my scouting will be topo maps and google earth due to work and family constraints. I'm looking for any kind of info to start the planning process whether it be-places to avoid, terrain features, weather for the first week of season, places to look for elk, general info, number of hunters in this unit, will the elk be bugling the first week of season, etc... I'm use to mountainous Colorado and Wyoming, so I know this type of hunt will definitely be different. We plan on camping, whether it be truck camping or hiking in a couple miles (I assume this is allowed in this area). thanks in advance for any info willing to share. Also feel free to PM.
