Some of you really need to know some facts before you start spewing your rhetoric.

"Pot smokers are the laziest people on the planet"

"Getting drugged up is NOT funny it's pathetic"

"It's dope"

Listen--first off weed or pot is NOT DOPE!! You must be over 50 if you refer to it as dope. Dope is the hard drugs.

Now maybe some pot smokers are lazy, but how dare you label us all lazy! Please buddy, I don't care if you were a cop don't label me or my fellow smokers. That's like saying all cops only eat donuts and are fat and beat their wives. I respect cops when given respect also.

I'm in the best shape of my life at 35, work full time, and a great person. Some of the most successful people I know smoke on the regular. It's funny how "alcohol" is so much safer than pot to lots of you. Really? Let's look at the destruction alcohol has caused millions of people. DUI deaths, crashes, divorces, fighting, aggressiveness. How many people do you know that ONLY smoke pot get caught up in this? I would bet hardly any.

Biggest drug dealers on earth are your doctors!! Hmm feeling edgy take this pill. Have depression take this. Funny thing is people take all these Dr meds, then drink alcohol also. Ever do something drunk and say geesh if I wasn't drinking I never would have done that. THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN WITH POT.

As far as Colorado making it legal. Why not? People are gonna do it regardless if you or I like it or not. Why not capitalize on it and reap the benefits of MILLIONS/BILLIONS of tax dollars. I'm sure your roads, schools and such can all benefit from it.

Embry Oklahoma--we need to hunt together!!

Sorry for the rant, but it needed to be said.

I would if I didn't get random drug tested for work. I think it should be legalized across the board and it's a big waste of resources to criminalize people over it.

Question for those who know more about this than I do. It's still classified as a schedule 1 drug on a federal level so it's still illegal in that regard. Did states that "legalized it" really just decide to quit enforcement?

Stealthycat, If you think it would help you, I'd try it independent of it being legal in a particular state.

From: Dyjack
20-Apr-17
Ben h, I believe they also saw it as a great opportunity to get more funding for education and infrastructure. They save money not chasing people who indulge in a flower. And they make even more money taxing it.

One fact that rings true and shows a big issue with our society is "The most dangerous thing about cannabis is getting caught with it"

"Pot smokers are the laziest people on the planet" Yeah this is not true. I partake once in a while but like to while being active. Hiking, fishing, camping or anything outdoors. I think the people who are lazy stoners would be lazy regardless if they smoked.

As far as "It's still classified as a schedule 1 drug on a federal level so it's still illegal in that regard". This is true but Schedule 1 means that it does NOT have any use medically. Take a wild guess on who owns a patent for the medicinal use.

From: ben h
20-Apr-17
Dyjack, I get that by not enforcing/criminalizing it in those states, they get the benefits of not incarcerating and creating extra felons in their state, they also get to reap benefits of revenue, so that's win-win and makes perfect sense and states are starting to see this and are jumping on board. I think there are around 26 states that have legalized either recreational or medical use. My question is more to do with the logistics of how states do this when it's still federally illegal? My guess is they just chose to not care/pay to enforce the federal law and the feds don't really care to do it either (which are good choices, we don't need any more criminals).

From: ben h
20-Apr-17

ben h's Link
Destroyer, good info. I didn't really understand what schedule 1 meant. That's crazy that the US Health and Human Services own the patent for medicinal use, which pretty much says it has a use, i.e. not a schedule 1 drug, but the DEA refuses to accept this despite widespread evidence supporting that it has a lot of uses. On one hand Human Services stands to make money by it's use, but the DEA will lose budget if it can't enforce it being illegal. Can't make this stuff up; see link.

"Listen--first off weed or pot is NOT DOPE!! You must be over 50 if you refer to it as dope. Dope is the hard drugs."

This says a lot... I'll give you one thing, not all cops like donuts and every now and then a liberal makes sense. I'm basing my general opinion on dealing with pot heads since before you were conceived. Not very productive while under the influence and quite often when they are sober. I'll add that I do have some personal experience during my younger years...

Yeah, I get the alcohol thing but that's another off season Bowsite thread. One thing not listed in your facts post is that it WILL be legal in every state, sooner than later. Because that's where our country is heading.

Typical pot raid goes like this: Knock at the door, no answer for a few minutes. Door gets kicked in and cops are confronted with five guys sitting on a couch with a cloud of smoke above their head. Awkward long pause.... Then, from right to left, in order each guy says out loud slowly "dude". Cops realize that there is no threat after another very long and awkward pause. Then, the smartest of the bunch who is sitting in the middle says "Dude, what took you so long, we heard (yesterday) you guys were coming two weeks ago". The five guys go to jail and everyone is happy. Ed F

"JUST ANOTHER SIN TAX

Marijuana gets a lot of attention because what Colorado did is new.

The reality is—it fits into an existing ecosystem of so-called “sin taxes” already in place here.

None of them were ever enough to keep the entire state government running, though they do help.

For instance, in the 2015-2016 fiscal year, Colorado brought in:

$55.2 million -- cigarettes & tobacco excise tax

$42.6 million -- liquor excise tax

$102.9 million – casino tax

At $129 million, recreational marijuana has earned its place as a major player in this mix.

WapitiBob ok

Almost everyone loves their drugs. 7 in 10 Americans are on drugs (prescription meds) and I think its 4 of 10 on 3 or more prescription drugs. Millions still smoke and use tobacco products. Alcohol is a drug of sorts, many guys slam back 2-3 or more a day.

Medicinal marijuana has great value. Recreational I don't see a need for any more so than getting plastered drunk and yet we've all done that from time to time. If it would make me sleep .. without any addictions to it ..... I'd eat 1/4 cookie though I promise you that.

Whats amazing to me is the level of tax revenue on an all cash business. I imagine if every transaction left an electronic trail it would be even higher (no pun intended). I'm no fan of some parts of the 420 scene but to each their own. Although I'm more Libertarian when it comes to what people choose to do with themselves on their own time, legalizing it here was another step in Colorado going farther to the left. I wish other states would hurry up and legalize so Colorado doesn't stand out as a destination for stoners.

Its ironic that the first time I ever saw or smelled it was while skiing here in the 70's as a little kid. Of course its always been common at ski areas but now thats one of the places you will still get in trouble with it.

I know a very conservative guy who never used it or knew much of anything about it. Long story short, he went into the business. Turns out a squeaky clean record is a good thing when applying for growers license. He still hasn't tried any of his company's product.

I handle a decent number of misdemeanor and felony criminal matters from day to day. A significant number of these crimes are committed while using alcohol. A significant number are committed by people using meth.

A very insignificant number of these crimes are committed while using marijuana.

Not defending or justifying, just what I see from day to day. . . food for thought. . .

I do have a couple opinions though: Meth is a problem with no solution. Alcohol is far more destructive than pot.

"Alcohol is a drug of sorts." Nope, alcohol is a drug, it's just in a liquid form and it's not a narcotic (because, for the most part, it's legal). I'm not a pot smoker, but I agree with most on here: alcohol and meth = way worse. Tobacco might be worse, might be a push - who knows. I think you have to be careful with any substance that alters the mind, but weed might be ok in moderation, and I'm ok with it for medical use. Alcohol, on the other hand, the drug that is mostly legal, is devil water and does more damage.

From the CDC: tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Alcohol, although not as deadly as tobacco, is responsible for more deaths than opioids, heron and cocaine combined. If you gotta drink, maybe it should be the bong water.

20-Apr-17
Nope. I do not partake. Nor will I justify or condemn those that do. That is not my role.

However, it is a mind altering drug. Like many things. It does have negative side effects. Like many other things we humans routinely partake in. The one thing I'm confused about is people trying to rationalize it's affect in regards to less taboo means of mind altercations. It is what it is. If you need it or want it bad enough, that's on you. Just like being an alcoholic is on you. God Bless men

I smoked a little ganja back in the 80s occasionally, but wouldn't have considered myself anywhere remotely close to being a pothead or an expert on the subject, for that matter. Personally, I could care less what you do as long as your actions don't affect me, but you guys on here that are trying to bs everyone that it heightens your consciousness or that it doesn't affect your cognitive abilities are full of it! I smoked enough of it to know what it did to me and the people I smoked it with. We were far from fully functional. That's why we smoked it!

I wonder if any of you would feel differently if some highly intelligent IT professional, doctor, businessman, etc., got stoned on his way home, ran a stoplight, and t-boned your wife's car, and killed her or one of your kids. Personally, I'd rather be around a stoner than a loud mouth drunk any day, but impaired is impaired, no matter the vice.

Just curious... How many of you recreational users smoke in front of your kids? I drink alcohol in front of my kids.

My little cop humor was just that.... Nobody goes to jail for getting stoned in their own house. My perspective is different. When I grew up and worked it was illegal. My parents taught me to obey the law... it's that simple. I get that things are different nowadays, but I still feel the same. To each his own... Ed F

Who's a few points for you guys to discuss 1no marijuana is grown in dirt anymore it's all Hydroponics that allows anybody growing it to add chemicals to the water that the plant except and that is a very dangerous thing. Since it's not federally regulated nobody watches what is added to the water of these growing operations. So when drug dealer is obviously going to put something in his water to make his clients need his product more then the next drug dealer. 2 it still federally illegal it is a 100% cash business because the banks cannot accept money from the institutions that are selling it. The argument about tax revenue is bull crap because we all know the drug dealers are not going to be a hundred percent honest about how much cash they bring in and pay all the taxes owed.

From: Destroyer350

Forest - I'm sorry but you have absolutely no clue about what you're talking about. The majority of weed is still grown in dirt. The only thing that they put in it is things to get the ph to a certain level and plant food i.e fertilizer. All of that has to be flushed out of the plant or its gonna give you a helluva headache. In Colorado, some shops let you pay with a card and the banks accept it. Growers are under a microscope here in Colorado. They have to pay massive fines or risk losing their license if they are not in 100% compliance with the state government.

Bowunter, no, I don't smoke weed in front of my kids. They do however know that I smoke. It's not something I do in a social setting because usually I drink beer in social settings and I never mix the two. It is also not something I've ever been ashamed or embarrassed about doing.

Copperman, I'm fairly certain that my wife and kids wouldn't consider me a bottom feeding, lazy turd. Nor would the folks at my church. Neither would my customers or business associates. They would refer to me as hard working, loyal, honest, trustworthy and dependable. You don't get to where I am in life by being anything other than that. I'm only 34 and set up to retire by 50 if I choose.

Forest bows, take a trip to Humbolt co CA. It's still grown in the ground there. Also, your "drug dealer" isn't the one actually growing your weed. The growers now are real botanists and take pride in what they grow. There is absolutely no benefit to adding some chemical that is "extra" addictive. This is not crack or heroin buddy. Weed is a safer alternative to nearly any other product you put in your body today.

Wow! Way more contentious thread than I expected. I live in one of the legal states (Alaska if you didn't figure it out already). I spent alot of time researching/planning a legal grow operation up here and ultimately decided against it, but not for any moral reasons--just a business decision. I do have some background on the illegal side--nothing involving the courts--it was just college. While I smoked alot of pot back then, I soon found a career and drug tests weren't going to allow it. Fast forward 20 years and I was looking into starting the business, so I began to read...A LOT. It's too much to write here (and probably not the place for discussion anyway), but it should be said that marijuana does have some serious medicinal benefits and will only continue to expand in that arena as legality becomes more widespread and thus studied by people way smarter than me. It is also pretty clear that there are many other drugs out there more damaging than MJ. Not to mention the lack of physical addiction common to prescription drugs, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, etc... Yes, it does have an addictive quality, but in a mental aspect. There are no withdrawal effects with stopping MJ use (other than possibly making you smarter). I get the argument that we don't need to add yet another drug to the list of already legal drugs, but if someone wants to smoke weed they will be able to find it pretty easily. I think many of the stereotypes used by anti's are usually law enforcement or a family member that saw only the worst of it. Many of them would be surprised to know that their lawyer, doctor, school teachers, priests, judges and even friends are partaking--but, wouldn't dare tell one of them because they know the reaction they'd get. Sure, cops walk in and see a bunch of stoners on the couch, but they aren't going to get called to the school teachers house because they weren't selling it or causing any problems. One last comment--you hear of lots of wife/children getting abused when "dad" gets drunk, but when was the last time "dad" got too stoned and hit his wife/kids--may eat all the cheetos, but violence is the furthest thing from his mind.

From: TreeWalker

My warehouse guy told me it is easy to figure out what adults are addicted and it is by what they are willing to do for more of the drug they use. If you are a straight male and want some more of your preferred drug so intensely that you would consider going on a quick date into the back alley with another dude then that drug needs outlawed.

Pot smokers will never head into that alley whether has been an hour or a day or a week since they used weed. Addicts of cocaine, heroin, meth and the Rx based on those drugs will have a hard time not heading into that alley when the craving gets intense.

An alcoholic and a nicotine addict might think twice. The coffee drinker would laugh.

Pot has been cultivated to be much stronger than the Easy Rider days. Studies have shown that pot can impede the development of the brains of young males. As with alcohol, have pot be legal and restrict the legal age. Allow for research into how various components of pot might help with epilepsy, Parkinson's and other diseases. Strip out the THC high to create pain modifiers that don't get the patient loopy. Take away a high-margin product line from the Cartels.

WOW and the last thread that was similar to this was about alcohol consumption.

Pot is not a gateway drug. Its been proven that was all politicized by our government in the late 50s and 60s to curb drugs.

I have been in my fair share of full out (movie style bar fights) and it was always started with alcohol. I have never once seen a person high on weed even remotely get even close to getting violent with another person.

To tell someone who gets high to grow up is funny. How many people here bicker with one another daily like school kids?

As others have said there are many here on multiple drugs daily. Prozac, other stuff for anxiety, depression, Parkinson's, etc. Takes roids to get bigger or hgh for faster health recovery in sports, If a person smokes to relax why do you care?

Lots say well its illegal, well so is driving over the speed limit, claiming church contributions on your taxes you never gave, etc.

How about quit worrying what others do and worry about yourself?

Why worry about if someone uses mechanicals or not?

Shoots over 30 yards at a deer?

Its just freaking marijuana, the last time if memory serves me correct our native Americans used it quite a bit?

Forest and others who have and no longer partake have credibility with their perspectives based upon their own personal situations. But thats just their perspective. Just like alcohol, pot affects each individual differently.

Those who never have and think they know the score are just plain ignorant with a dash of self-righteousness tossed in, and apparently proud to show it. I know plenty of lazy, stupid, worthless losers who don't drink or smoke weed. I know people who smoke regularly who are highly educated, supremely accomplished in their professions, happily married, good parents. I know productive citizens who medicate with it rather than with "safe drugs" like opiods and anti-depressants, and they claim it has changed their lives for the better.

I know I am just about zero fun with this comment. Lungs don't like concentrated smoke of any kind. Tobacco...marijuana...mobile home....inhaling the byproducts of combustion directly into the lungs is a formula for lung damage. I've seen plenty of old smokers (tobacco and weed) who have reduced pulmonary function and live a very compromised life when they age. Because I value my lungs (and other organs) and because plastic O2 nasal cannulas are so unhandy at full draw, I have never/don't/won't smoke anything period. It's a lifestyle and health choice for me.

IMO, I can show you more lives that have been ruined by pot than have ever been helped by it. Another point is, it's still against federal law. If you're using it, you're breaking the law, federally and in most states. If you condone breaking one law, what about others? Shoot an animal without the proper tags? You say no, but who knows. I'm no saint by any stretch, I no longer even drink. It could have cost me everything. I know it effects people different, but why risk it? Patdel, in high technology there is so much competition for talent that drug tests generally aren't part of the process. There is a tacit understanding that many creative types do it. Some companies have a pre-employment test, but most don't. Nobody looks for a "job". We are constantly recruited by other competing companies.

People are judged by performance, not by what they do at home on their own time. The performance bar is set very high. The salaries are very high, even at mid-levels. At my last company, a large publicly-traded Silicon Valley video technology company that is responsible for everything we see on video somewhere along the line (TV, internet, movies) our CEO joked with me at breakfast one morning that if we did drug testing we wouldn't have anybody working for us who was any good.

I dont "partake"... can't say I never did. Been a long, long time though. I also don't drink... can't say I never did. Been a long, long time though.

The problem in my opinion is... people do mind altering substances because they like the way it makes them feel. So, they want to do it more. First monthly, then weekly, then daily, then all day. Until its a problem. Applies to lots of things. Pot, alcohol, cigarettes, sex, bowhunting, whatever.

It's not my place to judge, everybody makes their own choices. I couldn't care less if you want to partake. God bless Willie Nelson.

Well said sfiremedic. None of my business what makes you happy and none of anyone else's what makes me happy. A lot of glass house stone throwers have outed themselves on this thread.

I had no idea what "4/20" signified until the last few days when I saw a bunch of people talking about it.

Never have tried MJ, or any other drug, in my lifetime. No intention of starting now.

I bet it's been 15 years since I have participated. Too many drug tests for work now days.

Dont imbibe, did forty years ago, though. Have been away from it for a long, long time. Been subject to random drug testing at work for the last ten years. The fact that I dont smoke is one of the factors to why I was able to qualify for this job.

I dont use any drugs at all and barely drink a bottle of wine each month, maybe only two beers each summer. Perhaps if I end up with a medical condition that it can help, after I retire, I would consider it.

I never smoke pot or tobacco for one reason only, my lungs. I was a runner from 12 years old up to 60 when my knees gave way. I now bike. Also, I am a singer in a studio band. Nothing but air goes into these lungs.
