Bait sites are set, treestands are up and camera's are out watching over the bears. Measured all sets 200 metres with a tape measure and moved to legal distance in 2 N. Bear Areas. Looks to be a GREAT Bear season. Chris.

Looking good Chris! Best of luck this spring to you and your hunters on a safe and successful season!
Chris,
Hope you have a great season! I'll be following along. Could you explain the 200 meter law?
Is it me, or is that just a monster of a bear???
Good Luck this year!
Scar.
Thanks guys!! Scar I think it is a large bear. I have a daytime pic of him but blurry. Les, new law last year states all baits must be 200 metres of any trail a vehicle could travel. Only my baits in Kenora district are affected right now, our other districts are giving us time to tape measure our sites. Its kinda ridiculous if you ask me.
So far no bugs and very few ticks. But could change.
Good luck to u and your hunters stay safe.
I believe the only thing missing in that Wabigoon picture is Cinnibear and a fishing pole.

Seems to be a lot of color phase bears this year. With a black rug and Arika's half mount from last year I thought I would be saving on the taxidermy bill this year. Then you post these chocolate bears, gee thanks Chris. ;) curt
Got a phone call on my cell from one of our hunters. He got a bear but was out of gas. Got 20 litres of gas and met him at his bait site. Looked for a couple of hours for the bear but did not find. Hunter had to climb a hill to get service, he was glad to hear me answer my cell.
That is what semi guided is. You transport yourself to baited sites with own vehicle. We (guides) do not rest till all hunters are accounted for at the end of each day. Hunters who are known to go to town and not report in are checked up upon the next morning as we have had a few times where we looked for hunters and they were just visiting Dryden after the hunt. ALLWAYS check into camp after a evenings hunt before going to town.
Overall, it was a hard week of hunting. Had to move many hunters to different sites before things started to work out, sightings wise. All but 1 hunter could have taken a bear. We had a late spring. Leaves just popped out, bears feast on leaves and clover at this time, so they were foraging heavy on greens.
My belief is that too many are snapping pictures of the bears in front of them while waiting for the BIG GUY. Every picture has the bear staring at them. KEEP YOUR PHONES IN YOUR POCKETS please while on stands. Texting while on stand is not helpful. Everytime you get a text your screen lights up and brightens your face.
Next week will be a good week. I am looking forward to a successful 3rd week. Chris.
Yesterday afternoon there were 6 hunters out. Total 18 bears seen, with one nice one being tagged, rained most of the afternoon sit. 2 bears for the week so far.
Last week we set up a new area and checked them again yesterday . Out of 8 new sets, seven were wiped out. Baits for week of June10th or sooner.
AWFULL!!! Bring 2 thermacells.

It Minnesota now...crossing into Canada can't wait to get into camp. Anyone from Michigan in camp June 3-9?
Lots of colors this year Chris... I'm enjoying your thread.
Hello Chris, I am enjoying the pictures. Have you taken any bears off of where I was sitting last spring, the nursery. Indiana Bear Hunter
Larry, we went to move a hunter to the truck bait but had to change to Clay Bait, where you hunted last spring. Hunter said he could still hear Ben driving away when a bear walked in. Took his "Last minute bear" at about 3:30 today. His dad and him had it dragged out skinned and quartered before we even knew he took one!!
Me and Ben got the truck stuck this evening. We thought we left the phone in the other truck. We were getting ready to walk 12 miles out when a phone went off in a pocket of the jacket in the truck. It was Lottie asking where we were. It was amazing that she phoned when we needed her to the most!!!
One hunter shot at a real nice boar and hit a branch. Saw a total of 17 bears off his original bait he hunted all week. he's going home without a trophy but had a great time.
No other MI. hunter this week. Do next week though. Delwayne just left.

Left a light on top of the barrel. There was a tagged bear just behind the barrel but this bear didn't care. We had to move out.
I moved a painted about the same size as that one off the road last week. It almost got run over by a school bus. I move snappers off the road too....

My first Canadian Black Bear!! My daughter is still looking for her first black bear as well she had a sow with cubs the first evening? and a boar last night, but was waiting for a good shot when he left. I used a Hoyt Carbon Defiant, Easton Axis arrows tipped with Muzzy Hb Broadhead. The bear went about 40 yards!! Thanks Chris and Ben.
The bear you shot Carcus (Jason) was a monster!!! Congrats.

My daughter's first bear!!! She is super excited this? was her third bear hunt she really put in the time many long sits. Her setup Mathews Passion Easton axis arrows and Muzzy Hb Broadhead.
Schmity the Muzzy Hb Broadhead worked great for me and my daughter, both of our shots were pass through and both bears did not go far, and both bears made the death moan. Also thanks to Chris for a great spring bear hunt.
Successful bear hunter, Courtney, tutoring guide Ben as he has a major exam on Friday. Courtney is also a teacher back in Minnesota.
3 bear hunts I suppose Courtney has learned enough Canadian to tutor him?
Screwball, it was her first hunt at Pine Acres.
Bowhunters did very good this year.
Congrats on a great season! Lots of bears, high success rate, the way it should be! Thanks Chris.
There was one week we were having trouble getting bears to cooperate, W/O May 21. But, by the end of the week, all but one was able to get a chance at a bear. Overall was a lot of fun!!!
End of bear season 2017 spring hunt. ***Overall was a very successful season for our archers.*** Rifle hunters had the most missed opportunities.
Now planning our Fall 2017 bear hunt.
Thanks to Pat of bowsite.com for allowing us to post our hunt on the Big Game Forum. I would recommend Bowsite to outfitters who are bowhunter friendly for sponsorship. Thanks ALL!!!
