Drew a moose tag and trying to get a feel for judging them so if you have moose pics with a score Id appreciate you posting your pics very much. Thanks ! Gary
Assume you drew a shiras tag??? I've got quite a few moose pics, but only know the score of 1 that is 211 and I don't think you will be finding a shiras that big. Congrats on the tag and good luck!
Yes, drew a shiras. Any pics would be great !
164" B&C Shiras
Congrats on the tag. This is a 46 5/8" Shiras. Officially scored 139 5/8" gross. 24 3/8" right palm length, 25 6/8" left palm length. 9" wide palms. 7 score able points on each side. You need split brows (dramatically increases palm length measurement) if you want a high scoring bull. Good luck on your hunt and keep up posted on how it turns out!
This was Idaho Shiras--not the best pic. 52"--171 P&Y. As mentioned previously--forked brow tines are key.
Click on my 'handle' and go to my pix as my Shiras out of Wyoming came in 139+ net after 11+ loss in deductions.
Good luck, Robb
Colorado Shiras. 180 3/8 original P&Y. 176 0/8 P&Y panel score. 180 3/8 B&C after their panel score.
Thanks guys, keep em coming !
Ziek - any pics of that one on the ground? What unit in CO? What was the spread?
Dang guys....those are some some impressive bull moose!
So, if your goal is a P&Y Shiras bull or better....you want something a bit bigger than my WY bull. He's 38" and change wide, decent palms and mass...but weak forks and tops. Green scored him just over 120" gross....well short of the 125" net minimum...so I have no official score to share.
Here's a better look at the antlers. My goal going in was a bull in the 40" range...and this one is real close. Hope this helps....
40" Idaho bull. Lacks split brows but damn good eating ??
Rifle hunted 174 B&C Canada moose
this scored 221"....took 2 days to pack out
