After a polio/slip and slide simulator descending some steep slopes in melting snow with no tread. Plus ruining every sock I put in them now with their oh so sweet scent. It's time for me to retire my Irish setter boots.
I'm close to just buying the same pair that served me well for countless miles. But the gear junky part of me is curious about what else is out there.
What boots do you guys wear in deadfall and steep terrain? No moccasins for me, I'd break an ankle.

For me, Lowa's- GTX (Gore-tex) choose your flavour. I like the Tibet's for late season elk. For early archery deer I use Merrell's, I have two different pair, one is a little heavier than the other, both are Gore-Tex. Depending on what kind of support you like you can go from really light weight to extreme support.
Best thing to do is go to a good outdoor store and try on several pair. REI, Sportsman's Warehouse, Cabelas etc... I can't wear Kenetek they slip on my heal and Soloman's are too narrow for me.
Good Luck,
Scar.

I'm a big fan of Lowa Renegade's. They have served me well for years. If packing in steep terrain you may want a stiffer boot though. Lowa has a new model out similar the renegade I want to try next, I think it is the Camino but I could be wrong and probably am. Looks like a great boot.

I've got Lowa Tibet's, Lowa Renegades, Han Wag Alaska's and I just ordered a pair of the Lowa Camino's and I should have them next week. I prefer the Han Wags for heavy backpacking and I like the Renegades for hunting with only a day pack but they are a little "soft" and lacking in support for my taste. I'm hoping the Caminos will be a happy medium.
For colder, flatland hunts I have some Irish Setter Treelines, Danner Pronghorns, and Meindl Perfekt Hunters, all 400 gram Thinsulate.

My favorite elk hunting boots are the Meindl Prefect Hunter. For sheep and goats I use Kenetrek.

Not a hunting boot per se, but trying out the Salomon 4dGTX this fall. still breaking them in. Very comfortable, but I am beginning to suspect I bought one size too small. My toes hit the front(just barely) on steep downslopes. Might have to just modify the lacing pattern...I hope.

I have several pair of Lowas and Scarpas. Depending upon the weather, how much hiking I plan on doing, how much snow is on the ground, how steep the terrain I'll be hunting, etc. It's nice having several pairs to choose from!

I will second the Meindl Perfekt Hunter boots. Name a boot and I have probably owned it but everytime I put on these boots I tell myself I should have got these years ago.

I have high volume feet, and have found the Han Wag Mountain Light to be light, supportive and as comfortable as tennis shoes. Backpacked out half an elk in them a couple of times.
