Just for the flat- landers who might be coming to Colorado to elk hunt. Spring time in the Rockies and September will not be far behind. Picture taken while fishing in northern Colorado last week. my best, Paul

Damn Paul now I feel guilty or more appropriately behind schedule and have to go out for a hike because I know if I don't my ass will be lagging behind my buddies. That is what happens when you live at 500 ft above sea level and are 20 pounds above objective.

Started riding my mountain bike the 6.5 miles each way to the gym in prep for the season! Upper body is dtrong, legs getting there and now 13 miles a week on the bike will jump start my cardio. Couple more weeks and I'll start scouting.

I've known of runners and weightlifters that stayed in camp after the first day of elk hunting in CO. I used to be knocked down by it but the last few years I work hard outside all summer running my lawn business. Now I can keep up with the guides without feeling like I'm going to die.

Spring hasn't quite sprung yet. 27 degrees at my place this morning at 8500', pond had a skim of ice. Now it's snowing lightly in the sunshine while I wait for the evening moose parade.
Life is good!

I was chilling down a urine sample! Well, at least a sample after a bit. Glenlivit. A friend gifted me a bottle for doing a favorite I'd have done for nothing. Seemed like a nice chill down for an evening of moose watching after a 4 mile hump with a 40 pound pack.

I live 4 feet below sea level. The biggest hill we have is an ant hill. We've had a mild May this year. The highest temp so far has been 92. 100% humidity and 90+ temps will be the norm until late September. You hillbillies can't hang with us flat landers.

Average 15 inch trout I catch from a lake using my flyrod . I caught and release three fish one 22 and the other two were 20 inch from an adjacent Gold Medal lake using woolybuggers.

Those are eating size trout from CO. When I walk down the hill I keep one fat 16" rainbow, which is perfect for my wife and I.
This is a decent fly rod trout from the second lake Paul fished.

My guess is not many. Looks like the front range crowd heading up I70 on a weekend. A problem "they" will never solve. If you like to go to the mountains on your days off, you need to plan on a job where you can work weekends when the rest of the world is off and take weekdays off.

Figured I'd try to throw in a Montana photo for the flat lander's too. I recon the best way to get in condition for hunting, is some summer hiking/scouting.

Of course it's also about time to hit the big hole river for the annual salmon fly hatch. Or do both, hike in mornings and fish in evenings.
