For you VPA shooters, what is your head of choice. Why did you settle on it? I have shot the standard no vented 125s and some vented 125 custom heads and really liked them both. I am probably going to shoot VPA this year for elk and curious wat others think.

I like 125 3-blade vented and the 125 2-blade vented.

Am experimenting with 150 2-blade vented.

I'm shooting the 85 gr. 3 blade vented... coupled with Gold Tip 340 Hunter Pro, Max Hunter Vanes (3 fletch); from my 64 lb. BTX, 405 gr total arrow weight.... They fly like darts....

175 grain 3 blade 1-1/8" cut. 60# Mathews .400 spine cut to 27.5"s. Very tough heads I killed 7 deer with the same head and on the seventh one I buried it in a tree and could not dog it out. Scooby

I'll be using 3-blade vented 100's on Bison later this month in AZ. Total arrow weight is 445, and speed is about 290 fps. Had bought some 2-blade 100's for that hunt, but changed my mind and will stick with the 3-blades, in favor of more cutting surface.

I shot 125 grain unvented three blade for a while with 300 FMJ shafts. Currently shooting 150 grain unvented three blade with 250 Black Eagle Spartan shafts.

currently shooting the 2 and 3 blade 150's as they tune exactly the same in both my recurve and compound.

3 blade un vented 100 for years now. Shoot 200 grain in vented out of the recurve as well.

100 gr solid (non-vented). Prefer a lower profile broadhead and got a deal on the solids.

I currently shoot the 125 3 blade non vented. When those get used up I'm going to use the 150's for the longer blade and less blade angle.

I like the 125 gr 1 1/4 inch cut custom shop model, nice wide wound channels. I Have shot a number of deer and a couple of elk with them and they perform flawlessly!

I have been using the 150 grain 3 blades and they fly and preform well. I did buy a pack of 175 grain 3 blades to give me a little bit quieter arrow for whitetails but I have not tried them yet. I like slow, forgiving arrows for close shooting.

I've used both 100 grain vented and non for years. Having my bow tuned and switching to 4" feathers with a 3 degree helical twist got them shooting like darts. Never had a problem with penetration but I upped to the 125 grain non vented recently just because. Shooting 70 lbs at 30" DL, GT, about 450 grains. That set up shoots around 300 fps

100 grain 3 blade vented and non vented. I use them backed with 50 grain brass inserts in FMJ 5mm 340 with total arrow weight between 495-500 grains.

The non vented, in my experience, are a little less forgiving on tune/form. For this reason I shoot them a lot while practicing.

My wife & I started off with the 100 gr. 3 blade vented. Then when they came out with the 100gr. non-vented solid I switched, but my wife kept her 100gr. vented until they came out with the 100gr. vented "PINK". She has about 18 of the pinks and love them. Between her and I these 100 grainers have about 8 elk in the freezer thanks to SOLID STEEL!

Compound is the 125 3 blade. I is the same size as the 100 but with thicker blades. Recommended by the owner of VPA. For trade gear I like the 150 2 blade.

Switched to the 150g 3 blade last year. I've only killed 2 whitetails with them so far.

Quiet head and I had no tuning issues at all with them. Rock solid and they've been fairly easy to touch up for sharpness. Previously was shooting G5 strikers and got sick of bent ferrels and broken blades.

The first year I shot them I shot the 100 grain vented 3 blades. Ever since then I have shot the 125 grain vented as well as the nonvented.

The buck I shot 2 years ago was quartering to me. I hit him behind the shoulder. Arrow hit the opposite hind leg. Blew threw the bone and stuck in the tree behind him.

Extremely tuff heads.

I love playing with broadheads and love the simplicity and toughness of the VPA. It is going to be hard to not shoot Black Hornets again this year. They really are a tremendous head.

My standard is the 3-blade vented 150gr. I also have used the 175gr non-vented 3-blade and the 250 gr 3 blade for various setups. Have been great broad heads across the board.

I am shooting the 125 vented two blade. (my understanding it is basically the older 150 non-vented?) Pretty tough head and it's killed stuff. Flies well. Sharpens up real well on a flat diamond stone at just the right angles due to the design of the ferrule, almost like you would sharpen a fixed 3 blade, but with a better "sharpness" angle. Pretty innovative engineering IMO. But what I've shot so far wasn't much of a test. We shall see. High hopes.

That Black Hornet is a heck of a head. Flies great and tougher IMO than the Stingers, which for the last several years have been my go to head. Prolly "sharper" better blade steel than the VPA and hold an edge better. Maybe the "edge" to VPA though for overall toughness.

"...the right angles due to the design of the ferrule, almost like you would sharpen a fixed 3 blade, but with a better "sharpness" angle..."

Aren't the blade angles still set at a 120 deg offset like any other 3 blade?

From: TD

It's a two blade. The ferrule has "flats" on it you lay down on the flat stone and that gives you your sharpening angle. A lower (higher?) angle than using a 3 blade on a flat stone sharpening two blades at a time. I'd think the factory edge angle is about the same on the 3 blade as the two (I don't have a 3 blade to compare), but using the common method of sharpening each on a flat stone, the angles are different.

I shot them for the 1st time last year - shot the custom vented 125 3 blade. Killed an elk and 2 deer with the same head! Combined the 3 made it 125 yards - elk went 50 yards. Great head - I use a 14 mil bastard file to sharpen them - shaving sharp in seconds

125gn 3 blade unvented. Hit with field points as long as the bow is tuned.

Been toying with trying the 150gn 3 blade unvented..... Like the idea of the longer cutting surface.
