11:02 AM LIVE from Ok*
Let the record reflect that Hunt4life was early this year!
get some good video and share!!
3:03 PM LIVE from Ok*
Ryan is in stand 2, Andrew stand 3, Hunt4life in stand 4, Boothill in stand 5, Kevin in stand 5A, Ed goes to stand 6, Kyle goes to 7 and I am headed to Rattlesnake Ridge.
Feeders go off at 5:30 central.
92. and toasty.
Good luck try and stay cool
In stand 5a. Ladder stand. There is a nice breeze I'm my face . This is a great looking stand. Won't be long now.
5:20 PM LIVE from Ok*
Giving the low platform stand at Rattlwsnake a chance. Should produce
That low platform is a nice stand. Lots of room....only problem is everything you touch clanks.
5:54 PM LIVE from Ok*
Ryan scores from stand #2, he didn't waste any time.
6:38 PM LIVE from Ok*
Very quiet from all hunters. Patiently waiting...c'mon hogs!
7:38 PM LIVE from Ok*
Still quiet. Very unusual to not even hear some hogs fighting. Best time is coming up!
7:58 PM LIVE from Ok*
6 big hogs came from the north and went east of my stand. One sow was 200 plush pounds. Maybe they will drift back this way?
8:01 PM LIVE from Ok*
Dang metal stand. I keep hitting my bow on the side. Hush!
Coyotes are howling!
8:02 PM LIVE from Ok*
Sun is below tree line. Light wind. Time for a pig appearance!
10:00 PM LIVE from Ok*
Well,,, in the end only 1 hog was shot but they are out there. Maybe tomorrow morning. Stay tuned. And in honor of Adam West, " Same bat time, same bat channel".
Told you. When I think pigs are near, I stand up in the platform so I won't clank.....
Tomorrow night, corn like I suggested......you'll get them in.
Let the games begin!
Let the games begin!
Here's Ryan with the nice boar he shot from stand 2. Sorry about the blood, but I didn't want to wet down those long bristles on his back. Congratulations Ryan!
5:54 AM LIVE from Ok*
Back at it this morning. 1 gobbler sounding off. Light wind. Back at the Ridge.
Bad Karma & Medicine Man, I didn't see any of your messages until after i killed my hogs. Sorry.
6:25 AM LIVE from Ok*
I can hear hogs to the northwest of me. Probably headed to stand 4.
6:47 AM LIVE from Ok*
I can hear the pigs over at 4 but can't see them. Quiet here so far.
7:24 AM LIVE from Ok*
I can hear hogs to my west but can't see them. So tantalizingly close and yet, nothing. Trying to wait them out.
Black sow down at 5a this morning. Not the prettiest of shots but she was down within 75 yards.
9:38 AM LIVE from Ok*
2 hogs down! Great morning hunt. Congrats Andrew and Kevin!
Congrats to the 2 successful hunters. Look forward to hearing how things go this evening. Hogs and heat don't they go together well?
Here's Andrew with a good boar he shot at #3 this morning.
Heres Kevin with the big sow he shot at 5a. It's unusual to see a hog with this much fat this time of year.
I love the smell of pig guts in the morning...
12:42 PM LIVE from Ok*
Last night I was tempted but held off.
I know, you all thought I was a weak man.
I'd bring a couple hundred pounds of corn out to fatten some of those hogs up, Mike.
Then shoot the one that waddles the slowest.
It's about time to head out for stand #5 for a roaster size hog!
4:50 PM LIVE from Ok*
Back in the stand. This afternoon I chose 5A, the newest stand at Shiloh. Even though Kevin killed a nice fat sow off of this stand in the morning, I have high hopes it will produce tonight. Hot and breezy. Wind out of the South, Southeast. Perfect for this setup. Let's hope the hogs think so too!
4:54 PM LIVE from Ok*
Forgot to mention that we did the pitch-in lunch with steak, potatoes, corn, broccoli salad and desserts. Easy to hunt on a full stomach!
5:38 PM LIVE from Ok*
And I jump when the feeder goes off! First big game critter of the night.
5:48 PM LIVE from Ok*
7 does and 1 buck. Where are the hogs???
the hogs are waiting for you to start snoring before they come in to eat.
6:16 PM LIVE from Ok*
Deer bolt. 2 hogs come racing in from the East. I am sizing them up when 3 more pile in. Which one is biggest? Nothing huge. Shoot or wait????
If you have enough corn, wait. I shot my boar last trip after the other pigs ate for 40 minutes. Yes, 40 minutes.
6:35 PM LIVE from Ok*
Bad Karma, you know I am a weak man!
6:40 PM LIVE from Ok*
That little piggy won't be going to market.
Nice shot placement right there! Congrats!!
8:18 PM LIVE from Ok*
Pics don't load well. All 5 were about that size. Could have waited but... Double lung shot. Hog went 40 yards and dropped. I dragged her to the edge of the road and was able to get her back to camp. I cleaned the hog and was able to walk back to the stand for the last hour of hunting. Nothing came in but I did get to see a hawk harassing the squirrels. At last light an owl landed on the top of the feeder, probably hoping the squirrels would come out one more time. The squirrels did not and neither did any more hogs. A great night none-the-less.
8:21 PM LIVE from Ok*
14 yard shit from ladder, fell in sight 40 yards away. Just missed the heart but a lovely X on both lungs. Couldn't find that first drop of blood but she died in sight of the stand.
Waiting to here how the others are doing.
Pretty impressive shit...
8:43 PM LIVE from Ok*
Hog cut up and in the freezer.
8:45 PM LIVE from Ok*
Watching a big hawk buzz the gray squirrels. Pretty cool.
8:53 PM LIVE from Ok*
Cool looking owl perched on the top of the feeder.
10:55 PM LIVE from Ok*
Hit, not shit! Thanks Stick n String. Lol
11:08 PM LIVE from Ok*
Ed scores on a nighttime hog hunt! Congrats!
6:18 AM LIVE from Ok*
Saturday morning finds me in stand 7.
15 minutes before the feeder goes off about 10 hogs come and leave offering no shot.
Morning looks promising!
Thanks for keeping us posted! Stay cool, have fun, shoot straight and tell Matt & Cheryl we say hello!
7:34 AM LIVE from Ok*
Feeder goes off and I still jump.
Hogs grunting southwest of me. Humid, wind out of the SE-South.
Time to get ready.
7:36 AM LIVE from Ok*
Stick snaps and then a grunt.
Several footfalls and more gruntingz
15 hogs rush the feeder.
7:50 AM LIVE from Ok*
Of course there are no small, far hogs in this group.
Where were you last night.
Still, I'm hog hunting.
Nice hog goes broadside.
Line up the shot. Make sure nothing's behind it.
7:51 AM LIVE from Ok*
7:55 AM LIVE from Ok*
Blood very good at first and then I lose the trail.
Hit looked okay but not a passthrough. Way to much arrow sticking out as it ran off. 15 seconds later, I hear it crash.
7:57 AM LIVE from Ok*
Follow blood for only 30 yards and it stops.
Ugh, been down this road before. Follow a logical path and see no hog.
7:59 AM LIVE from Ok*
Go back to original bloodtrail and see where I missed a turn. Blood still sparse but better than little droplets.
Dry, sandy soil soaks up blood fast.
8:05 AM LIVE from Ok*
Start a new line of sight search and find about a 120ish pounder taking the big dirt nap!
Jake , I finally got some LTE to post. Here is 5a.
Just dropped off our hogs at the processor in Stonewall. Now lunch at Lori's onion grill. Btw- the onion burgers are worth the drive.
This is the left shooting lane for 5a
Passed on the pumbas on the first night.
11:32 AM LIVE from Ok*
Kyle scores from the ground near the Poison Ivy stand!
12:28 PM LIVE from Ok*
Looks like fun. Thanks for the pics and words. Paul
You guys are having a time !
Out in stand 6 in the quad pod. The wind is in my face. I've never sat in this stand before. Feels good.
Ed doesn't waste any time and scores at 2. Congrats. I can't believe I stayed in camp! I do have 2 hogs in the freezer so I can't complain and I'm sitting in an air conditioned cabin typing this instead of sweating my butt off in a stand. Yeah, today I can do that. Waiting on pics.
Congrats Ed!
Only thing at 6 so far are free loading deer and squirrels.
Here's Ed's hog from his night hunt. He shot this hog using a thermal imaging scope and night vision guidance. Good shot Ed!
And here's the hog Mike shot at stand 7 this morning. Good shooting!
Hog growling behind? me downwind. Sun is finally below the trees.
More hog growling to the north. Still haven't seen a hog tonight. The breeze has stopped completely. Just over an hour left to go.
Lori's Onion Grill is a find. And you'll like the new sausages.....Tim does good work. They're addictive.
First hogs of the night. Circling. Out of range
They wouldn't commit and never came in.
It was a wonderful weekend. Until next time.
9:22 PM LIVE from Ok*
Boothill scores just before dark! Congrats Brian!
8 hunters shot 10 hogs...not bad!
Here's Brian with his last-minute-of-the-hunt hog. Congratulations everyone! It was a great time hosting the Porkapalooza again. You all truly make hog hunting great!
Sounds like you guys had a great time. Congrats to all. Feb sure seems along ways off.
Awesome it was nice break from the real world to sit down and read your thread. Looks like an blast. Congrats and happy Father's Day to all.
Looks like a heck of a trip. And, yahoo, I'll be at the 2018 Porkapalooza, hot weather and all, but great hunting and great people.
"14 yard shit from ladder, fell in sight 40 yards away"
I got distracted with a strange picture in my mind when Mike posted the line above. I have not been able to envision this or how it could happen
Well, you know, Mike is "a weak man..." :)
While we're all talking about Mike we'd like to take the opportunity to thank him for all the hard work he pits into organizing this event for the past 11 years. From designing the t-shirts to providing the gifts, none if this would happen without Mr. Bowdude. Regardless of what he did at stand #7, he's the guy that makes this happen every year:) Thank Mike! We appreciate all your hard work.
Matt and Cheryl
Funny stuff! Porkapalooza 11 is in the books. Another great hunt with great people. Yes, it was hot. Yes, the pitch-in steak lunch was fantastic. Yes, Matt & Cheryl are great hosts. No I didn't take a 14 yard shit, however, that typo was way too funny to correct. I truly had a great time and enjoy helping make this hunt happen. A few more pics are forthcoming.
Looks like you guys had a blast and some good hogs taken. Congrats
Looking forward to your live report at next year's hunt.
The traditional group photo!
Wayne (L) and Ed. Wayne is a bull fighter and has agreed to help Matt & Cheryl.
Hog heart lies very low in the chest and a bit forward. Magnus 4 blade Stinger (125's). Broke the piggies heart.
Came across some interesting tracks. Took me a minute to figure it out and then I started tracking the critter.
The tracking job was pretty short, about 5 yards actually.
How do you bring back a 50 pounder? In your back of course!
LOL, KSBOW, I will let Tradman and Huntress enlighten you all on Randy.
