Most judges don't consider "poaching" to be a crime. More of a nuisance. Legislators seem reluctant to impose any laws with any real consequence for much the same reasons (also because many of them likely know someone or have a family member who sort of bends the rules now and then.
Good that they caught them, but as I learned many years ago, serial poachers general go right back to it. Loss of hunting privileges is a joke - sort of like revoking drinking privileges for a drunk and telling them not to drink anymore.
