I usually run prahna Zion pants. These are essentially the same as the Sitka ascent pants.
I was thinking of a little thicker pants for cooler conditions. Timberline vs mountain. Which is better?

They are pretty much the same pant, but the Timberline has the double, reinforced, waterproof seat and knees. The Timberline weighs more but is a great cold weather pant. If it is just "cooler" you're worried about, go Mountain. If snow/moisture comes in to play for you go Timberline.

I really like the Timberline pants with the reinforced waterproof seat and knees, and the knees have build in knee pads which can be removed if needed. I worn then all season, warm and cool temps and if cold, I layered them which I may have done once or twice in 24 days of hunting. Paul

I agree with Kota, for more versatility I would go with the Timberline pants.

For you guys that have used the timberline pants before, any issue with them being noisier than the mountain pant? Just wondering if the material of the seat and knees is noisier than the other material?

I don't notice the Timberlines being any "noisier"...

I think what Kota-man is really saying is you need both:)

My timberlines are nice and quiet. It only took one time sitting on a snowy log in my 90% pants and ending up with a wet behind to appreciate how nice the waterproof seat is on the timberlines.

Justin, I prefer the mountains. Lot's of dark timber hunting, very little glassing, September time frame.
I've got both, but the Mountains get the nod 95% of the time.

Timberlines on sale at $135 over at one shot gear :-) Ker-ching!!
I'm in England, and even with $70 shipping, it's still a great saving

It really is personal preference imo. I like both. Les uses his mountains 95% of the time and I wear the timberline 95% of the time. If I was to buy two pairs I would buy ascents for hunting when it was warmer and when I don't expect to crawl as much and the timberline for when I will be crawling around. With that said, the new ascents have the knee pad pocket built in as well so you could even put the knee pads in them. After crawling with knee pads vs crawling without I will rarely not have them in the pant.
Try to find somewhere you can see them all Justin and try them on. Or do as Charlie said and buy all three pairs;)

You really can cover 99% of hunting conditions with two pair of pants: The Ascents and the Timberlines. I have both of these plus the Mountain and 90% pants and if I could only own ONE pair, it would probably be the 90% pants to cover the wider array of conditions. The 90% pants aren't my favorite of the Sitka pants, but IMO, they are most versatile. All of the Sitka pants are great and I find a "use" for all 4, but if you are limited to one or two pair, heed the advice above.

I have the accent pants and love them for September hunting. The Timberline is my late season go to pant when the snow flys and temps drop. With the timberline the waterproof fabric is great when sitting in moisture but the fabric is cold on my butt so I wear them with long jons. The 90% pants are nice to wear and work well in between hot and cold and nasty. If I picked 2 pair it would be accent and timberline

I'll chime in too-the Timberlines would be a great complement to your current lighter-weight pants. I have Kuiu Attacks and the Timberlines and I feel like I have any condition covered. I did find the knee pads in the Timberlines chafed a little so I took them out, but the waterproof seat and knees are awesome.

Agree with Paul.... I have the same Timerline with reinforced knees and seat , Super Pants... Comfortable, quiet, and warm with a layer underneath if needed....

I'll keep it short: Timberline for obvious reasons.

To complicate things a little more there are Sitka 90 pants....that are similar to Ascents. I've used and abused mine for years and they have never failed. The are a bit lighter and less bulky than the Timberlines (without reinforced butt/knees) if you are trying to shed ounces for air travel/packing/etc. I've never used Timberlines but can see the benefit to reinforced knees and seat.

I have the mountain pants. If I was to redo that purchase I'd prob go Timberline. I prefer my Kuiu attacks over everything else and they get 90% of the workload anyways. Bought a 2nd pair of attacks this year.

Broke my leg in the mountains a couple of years ago, the timber line pants were awesome. Crawled out of the hills through snow and ice. The right gear paid off that day.

Timberline hands down are the best I've ever used, that being said, I use the mountains early/dry season because I feel they are lighter
