Head out in the am to Colorado to hunt with a few buddies in unit 85.

First time for a few of the guys and glad to be part of their experience.

I'll do a semi live hunt if cell signal allows.

Hoping to lay some eyes on Mule Deer for the upcoming September hunt.

13-Aug-17
Good luck to all of you.

14-Aug-17
Thx Frank, always a good time with these guys.

Laguardi is quite a challenge these days.

Every time I fly out there is a different procedure for my bow.

Sometimes they want to open it, other times, all good.

I told the attendant that is was a bow, they weighed it and I was on my way to bag check. ( I often question the actual security, here is a good example )

Actually I prefer this procedure because I get to walk my case right to that location. TSA locks in place. Good to go.

Now hopefully I meet up with it in Denver.

As I type this, I think about all the times I read and lived vicariously through many of the hunts posted here on Bowsite.

First target animal showed up at camp after a long travel day and a quick Crown Apple and cranberry.

Not familiar with the Colorado unit numbers......where are you by location? My first out-of-state hunt was in western CO out near Montrose. Love those mountains. Best wishes on your hunt and hope you continue your updates.

Pretty hot now.

Plenty of drinks. Great tip:

Dan handed out some of those " chill" rags to wear around our necks. After dipping them in the cooler, really makes a difference!

A few does in the distance and a decent Buck way off in the distance.

Everyone saw goats yesterday, a couple of real nice ones, but none would commit.

Real hot today, hoping for a change. So far very slow here, since about 8:30 am when I did see a mid 70's class buck.

He only offered a rifle shot. :)

This is a pic of the buck we where after. We had one Trail cam pic of him from July.

I took the photo with my Nikon and zoom lens. He seemed 400 yards away.

This is a IPhone photo of the Nikon lens.

Any guesses what he would score ?

Looks like he has great mass, good cutters and they are up pretty high. Stating all that, I have no idea what he would score! Hope you get a crack at him, Rich!

Passed on a low 60's buck tonite. Very thin tops, not much mass, smallish cutters.

Nonetheless, fun to have him come in

We are sitting from 5 am till 8:00 pm and a majority of the activity is first and last light. Cody has has steady doe and fawn action keeping him entertained.

Although it's hot, it's a breezy hot. Walking in this am I could see dew on the sage and grasses which tells me that's where they may be getting their water from.

Maybe , just a hunch. I also watched the weather before arriving and the area has had some rain.

This has been a mental hunt for sure.

WOW! Don't know if I could spend 15 hrs in a blind! Good on you! Keep hunting hard and your luck is bound to change. Good luck!

Rut Nut, its more mental than anything.

Lots of snacks, drinks, reading materials... get me through it. The lack of sleep was tough though.

19-Aug-17
We are done, 0-4..but, we are back. All of us passed on bucks which is fine... A great time with friends and we are offered to come back at zero cost.

That is not so bad at all.

Thx for following all !
