9/29 NJ... 5 3/8" bases... Good buck for my area. 165# dressed. Shot out of a stand I hung in 2006, that never produced. Only one scouting mission 2 weeks prior that saw some acorns dropping in a very sparse year for acorns, and a buck rub. Waited for first cold morning and this guy surprised me.

Got this nice doe yesterday. I had a shot opportunity Saturday morning at 25 yards I didn't take because the deer was coming closer. At 20 years, she saw me and busted out of there.
The next day, this doe came to 22 yards and I made the shot.

Not a whitetail harvest, but it happened while hunting whitetails so I think you guys will forgive me.
I always keep a predator call in my pocket while bowhunting deer or turkeys--especially when the landowners and neighboring landowners have specifically asked me to try to take a few out when given the chance. It was 16 degrees this morning and it sure seemed like I should have been seeing some deer. Well, no deer, but I did call in a couple of predators for an exciting morning.
I had never before seen a bobcat from the deerstand even though I have gotten a few photos on my trail cams from time to time. (If you knew how many years and how many hunts per year I put in, you'd know that is saying something! :-) )

A great 4 days of bow hunting in KS. i missed three deer last year, and nearly ran out of arrows. redeemed myself this year. Passed on a great 9 point at 9am on the first day at 20 yards. i figured it was too early to tag out...mistake. spent the next 3 days seeing a lot of deer but nothing big in range. Finally at 9am on the fourth day, this guy came in at 35 yards, and i didn't hesitate this time. Used a three blade mechanical rage broadhead that cut a monster hole. He ran/stumbled about 60 yards and fell dead. huge blood trail. weighed just over 240lbs, and scored 157 5/8ths. has three added scorable points on one of his bases. could be the best deer i'll ever kill with a bow.

I can only hope to land a deer like I've seen in this thread. This is my first season hunting and I managed to get a 4 point with my crossbow. I'm told moving forward I have to go bigger for each deer I harvest. Looking forward to getting back out in the woods for the next one.

11/8: While I was at work, my Dad shot this big 4pt. from my ground blind at 8:05am. His first xbow kill. Unit 3N (Putnam County) in New York. 25yd. shot and he shot him through the base of the neck and the buck dropped right there.

Last day of the hunt and he came into the decoy just ahead of a big 8 Point. They started fighting out at 55 yards and amazingly the small buck won and drove the bigger buck off. Very frustrating. He got an arrow for his efforts. Don’t let the distortion of the selfie photo fool you - this is a small buck.

I shot this old bruiser on the evening of Nov 14th. I had rattled st 5 pm. At 5:10 he showed up 20 yards behind my stand. He ripped into a big community scrape I seen when walking in. That’s when I let the arrow fly. When the arrow hit him it didn’t pass all the way through. I was really surprised with that. So we decided to wait till yesterday morning to track him. The blood trail was ok but nothing special for the first 70 yards. We actually had lost the blood trail. 40 yards later we picked up blood again. Things were really looking up now as he left blood everywhere. He made it about 200 yards total from the stand.
He is an old bruiser. I don’t know when he broke off his beam on the right side. However his chest and neck had bruising from fighting.
The only part of the arrow that was recovered was 10” of shaft in his chest cavity. Don’t know where the broadhead end or the knock end of the arrow ended up.

Killed my buck on the 19th and arrowed this Kansas doe the next afternoon on the 20th out of ground blind quartering away......don't do the ground blind thing very often but it was pretty neat being at ground level and point blank.........beautiful sunsets were stacking up with Montana big sky country!

BJ, try this. Place fresh liver in a bowl of saltwater and after an hour or so, rinse well until all of the blood has been rinsed away. Never freeze the liver. Slice liver into thin pieces and flour both side. (place a cup or more of flour in a bag and then place a number of liver pieces and shake well) this will coat both sides of the liver. Dice up 5-6 pieces of bacon and also dice up a whole onion into larger sections. Place this in a hot flying pan and then continue to cook under a medium heat. Stir this concoction and then add a pad of butter. Keep cooking until done but not "fried". Place this concoction in a separate bowl and keep warm, and now it is time to cook the liver which will only take a minute or two. There should be some left over "grease" from the bacon but add another pad of butter and then place in the liver. DO NOT OVER COOK. Medium rare with just a slight pink down the middle. When done, pour the warm concoction over it and place a lid over it for just a minute. Serve with mashed potatoes, peas, and cranberry sauce is a nice addition. Red wine or other beverage is recommended.

Last animal for me. Decided to sit my public land spot one last time before driving home. A single doe walked by at 48 yards, right at the last legal minute of shooting light. Pretty cool watching the lighted nock streak through the air. Wasn't sure where I hit her, but she ran 55 yards, stopped, and piled up 10 feet from the private land! Haha, I love bow hunting......

Some really great bucks here. This guy is not huge, but is my biggest NJ buck to date in my third year of bowhunting. I've never grunted a buck in, and as a hail mary in the last ten minutes of shooting light, I let out two 30 second long series of grunts/bleats...after the second series, I heard this guy running in to see what was happening, walked behind me from my right to left, and I stopped him in the only lane I had on that side. He went down and was dead within 30 yards of the shot...it was probably 30-60 seconds between when I first heard him, to when I shot, but was such an awesome hunt the way it played out...truly awesome, and a trophy in my book.

Shot this guy at 27yards about 30 min before dark. The shot looked good and I thought I heard a crash. By time I gave it 30 minutes and climbed down, it was just about dark. Followed sparse blood for about 80 yards and realized it was so thick I could walk 20 feet from with a never see him. Decided to come back I the morning(it was in the low 20s that night). Came back the next morning and tracked him and found where he peeled off the trail after about 70 yards.
I did indeed walk right by him in the dark, within 5 yards,it was just to thick to see him. But it ended well. My first P&Y and biggest whitetail to date.

Changed things up last night and went with some camo netting on the ground to get closer to their field entry point. 25 yrd shot. Not a high odds shot with the angle, but it worked out. Went about 200-250 yards. First one with the bow for him. Pretty happy.
