Just returned home from a unbelievable trip to Newfoundland! Scored big on my first Woodland caribou. Spotted him not much after daybreak, took most of the day to slip in close enough for a shot. Ended up getting a 12yrd shot while he was feeding behind a small rock outcropping

It was a great hunt glassed him from a long ways off early in the morning, made the decision to go after him, Got in to about 400yrds the first time and then it was a waiting game, Watching him and a younger stag feed and slip over a hill or go behind rocks, A mere 6 hours later and I was belly crawling to the back side of some bigger rocks that he and the smaller stag were on the other side of. I slowly got on to my knees came to full draw and the rest as they say was history. It was a hunt I will never forgot...or the 4 mile pack back to the truck!!!!

The Burgeo Road is a great drive in the summer to see caribou. Well known around Newfy as a place to hunt caribou. The islands off Eddies Cove West have some monsters but hunting is illegal there. I fish off those islands and see caribou every time. Gray's Island is another good spot, but according to locals, they eat a lot of seaweed and don't taste good.

I packed it out as gentle as I could and basically just had the skull plate under my pack lid, Got it to the taxidermist and the velvet is in great shape, I will be doing a full shoulder mount in velvet. Can't wait to get see it again!!
