So this guy just starting come in in the evening like clockwork on the KS land i hunt. Hope he sticks around til end of Oct. I'm not good at judging but thinking he is 174ish. talk about motivation to get out and shoot a ton. so psyched for the season

???? He's a nice one!

Nice buck but 174" is a giant 8 pt. This is a nice 8 pt and one I'd shoot but he's going to have to hurry to make 155".

If he is coming in, don't wait for him, go get him now!

Velvet always makes them look at least 10" bigger.

Gotcha Dave. Poke a hole in him and let us know what he officially scores.

He looks great! I'd say deflate the air bags and enjoy the hunt. I'd guess 150

You guys are probably right about timing, but unfortunately i don't live very close and i have to notify "central scheduling" (wife), well in advance of my annual deer hunt. just going to hope that he doesn't get poached or wander off. Regardless i always see lots of good bucks, albeit not this good, on this property. I just have to quit missing. ;)

LOL! "Central scheduling"

He will struggle to be 155"s but that is super for an 8pt. i shoot if I get the chance. Shawn

Beams may get him to 160

Genesis X2. Decent mass. Brows hurt him the most. Great deer!

That being said, not many guys will see a 160" 8 point whitetail, let alone kill one.

I'd shoot him. Or his buddy.

I think I would tell my wife I was going to meet my girlfriend, and then go hunt that deer !

I would be hard pressed to pass that eight pt. Davebw322. Browtines will keep it below 155. I have some pictures of a nice eight also but I think the tine length needs a year.

you guys have made my night catching up on this thread. this is why i'm on this board. i'll send along more photos of this guy if i get some good ones.

If that other buck came in first, would you pass on him to try for the big 8? Do you have other pictures of the other buck? Is he an 8 pt also.....or a 10 pt?

From: davebw226
13-Sep-17
I think the other one pictured is a 9, but hard to be certain from the photos i have. I've planned for 6 days in that stand around the rut. Assuming he has still been showing up my plan would be to wait for that buck for up to 4 days, before shooting at a lesser one i think. I also have a doe tag, so might take a late morning doe one of the early days. In the past i've really only seen the big bucks near sunrise and sunset, but the does and younger bucks can show up any time of the day.

I agree with the others....I shot a gross 174" 8 pointer and it`s g2 and g3 where 14" and 12".....and the main beams were 29" with MASS. This is a definite shooter and I would harvest this deer in a New York minute.

Regardless of score that is a stud of an 8 pt!

If your truly trying to kill this deer now is the time.......I don't have any experience hunting feeders but you are messing up plain and simple every day you are in California. Once that velvet drops all bets are off.

Quit posting pics, put your pants on and tell the wife you are going to KS......tomorrow.

From: t-roy

I wouldn't bank on your premise that only the does and the younger bucks can show up any time of the day. All bets are off during the rut.

it does take a hell of a 8 pt to make even 150 and does this one have that sure. but how many of us really officially have your deer scored? and there are some guys on here that say that this deer wont go 150s but i have seen their deer that don"t go what they say that's for sure and others I would say know what their scoring.

He is nowhere near 174". Having shot many 8 points from 115"- 164" he will go 140"s

well just back from my KS hunt and the big 8 did not show up...however it was a great hunt. lots of deer, including a few good shooters. I did three full days in a 15 foot high ladder stand in pretty dense timber. I passed on a really nice 9 point at 9am on day one, and having not gotten as good a shot again for nearly 3 days after that, i was seriously questioning my decision to pass. Got busted once by a doe that bounded away huffing like crazy. Then at 9am on day four this guy came in to 35 yards. He weighed in at just above 240lbs, and officially measured 157 5/16ths gross, made possible in part by an extra three small but scorable points that came out of his left base. Where i was, the rut hadn't really kicked in yet. tons of scrapes and rubs everywhere you look, but the bucks hadn't lost their minds yet. probably this week. The list of animals i saw from that one stand in a little over 3 days includes, Turkeys, Raccoons, Armadillo, Box Turtle, Possum, and tons of squirrels. always entertaining.

Decent chance its the biggest deer i'll ever kill with a bow. but with that said, i'm already signed up to return next year. there are bigger ones in the same place.

Very good chance, by the time you get to hunt him, he will either be on the night shift or will have changed restaurants. Better explain priorities to central scheduling. I have 145, eight-point,in fact two, that are not quite that big. It takes a huge, eight to break 160. But that is for sure a shooter. Interested to see how this plays out.
