On my hunting property in SE Oklahoma...I found this. At first i thought the deer impaled himself on the t post, but upon further inspection, the deer had his head chopped off. I really believe the deer was poached and put on the t post. How many hundreds or thousands of times has that deer went under, through, or over a barbed wire fence? And just one day decided to jump right over a t-post. I don't know.

It's definitely a message. They must not like you leasing their old spot...

The only deer I've seen caught in a fence were fawns. That looks were intentional and unpleasant.

I once pulled a doe free from between the boards of a wooden fence. She was stuck between the bottom and second board (running horizontally) and was bleating like crazy. I grabbed her tail and back legs and helped her get free.
Weird stuff happens. Can't be there for all of it!

I released a button buck one from a high tinsel smooth wire fence, but had my hand caught in said fence upon release. Another time a doe had tried to jump through a tree that had two trunks. Was able to release her with help of a rope to lift her up. gottoohunt

I think it died on the stick and someone saved the head.

I was talking to a fella in a hunting camp last year. His story,i huge buck popped out if some cedars on a ridge, near another smaller buck that was runnig a doe around,..the big buck started thrashing a good sized cedar tree, getting his rack caught between 2 of the main braches.,45 min later still stuck,,he climbed down from his stand,,walked 60 yards, right up to the deer and arrowed the huge buck.he had to use a saw together rack free

...or was it a road kill that someone set there to bait in coyotes?

A couple years ago we had a 14 pt. that had a front leg between two strands of wire, would have died. We were able to pull enough staples to give him enough slack to get away.

Sometimes they get unlucky. Though, it seems much less likely with a low fence and a missing head.

We had a lease in Central Texas for years, and we saw several deer dead in fences. Out of all of them, my son and I saw it as it happened once. We were able to set the doe free, but her hind foot was scarred up some. I'm sure she made it fine, deer are tough !

My Brother in law saved a fawn from a fence along the interstate. He lost his right front leg. We got pictures of him. The first year he was a spike, the next year a six point and last year a nice eight point. We didn't get any picture of him this year. I don't think I'd shoot him if I did see him in deer season.

Road hunting and spot lighting are a problem in SE Oklahoma. The head was obviously cut off my guess is poached then hung on fence as some sort of brag or message.

Push, I agree and so does the landowner. Speaking with the locals around atoka, this is pretty common. The local game warden is coming out tomorrow I believe. If they could catch a few of these assholes and get the word out, maybe this would stop.

A necropsy might tell you if the impalement was post mortem or not. I tend to think the deer got caught and someone cut the head off.

This one was lucky, I think. She looked dead but once I freed it, I watched it run over a mile. It happens more than you'd think.

Driving 300 miles every day doesn't necessarily make you a driving expert. Sometimes it just means you're more likely to end up in a wreck.

Good luck with that arbe. And if it was some poachers I hope they show up again and this time get caught. It's unfortunate that not all of us play by the rules and there's a few a@@ h?+&% that ruin it for the rest of us. It could of gotten stuck and was such a nice buck someone wanted the rack and cut the head off. Either way it's not there property to do so.. good luck and I hope everything works out!!

Several years ago - like maybe 10-15 - a buddy of mine was working his way out of an afternoon set during gun season here. We had about a foot of snow. He decided to leave early after seeing nothing, and as he worked towards a known river crossing on his way out, he saw movement. The deer was kicking it's legs and lurching oddly - but in the same spot. He started edging closer, only to discover it was a buck who's rack had some how gotten stuck in the V of a tree as the deer tried to come up from the brook. It was not a huge deer, a basket 6pt if I remember correctly. He shot the deer - which had not been there when he headed in.
We all pick on him a bit, he shot that deer that was literally stuck to the tree, and his largest buck (a super heavy racked 10) was blind in one eye - which happened to be the side he shot it on ha ha ha!
