About to jump in a stand in a little 2 acre piece of woods behind my house in suburban Pittsburgh. Saw a really good 8 point cruise through my backyard yesterday. This piece is hit or miss, and the last two years it’s been awful as far as seeing deer. Saw a true giant (150”) about 1/4 mile down the road the other day and I think I know where he is bedding, so going to try for him on Wednesday.

I wasn’t planing on hunting this stand this year, so I didn’t come in and trim shooting lanes over the summer. Wow, things have grown in. I have very limited shooting.
Wind is decent, supposed to be east but is more north here.

My 16 yr old son (and daughter) plays in the Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra. Daughter is doing SAT subject tests this morning, so I am taking Christopher to PYPO today. After PYPO ends at 1:00 we are running to the woods and getting in trees. Should be a great afternoon!

Just had half rack 3 point cruise through. There are turkeys in 2 giant oaks 20 yds from me, and it’s turkey season.

About a dozen turkeys just flew down. They are hanging out in my next door neighbor’s yard.

Just got up. Before I was ready, I look up and 95” 8 point standing 10 yards. I made sure he saw me, and he hopped back into the thicket and headed down the hill toward Christopher. Buck should go right to him. Hope he gets a shot.

Christopher missed a doe at last light. He misjudged the distance. Thought it was 20 but it was like 26. He went right under her. He’s off school Thursday and Friday and he will be doing all-day sits in the tree I was in today.
