Whitetail Deer

Right now, it is 4:08 A.M. I can hardly hear due to the rain pounding on the roof. The wind is whipping, thunder and lightning every few seconds and it is 58-degrees. I shall not be ascending any monocotyledon or for that matter, crawling in any ground blind. Although we are in the best days of our chase phase, I do not hunt in the rain for two reasons.
First, it is not fair to the animal. Too many washed out blood trails. Secondly, it is not fair to me. I do not have to be miserable. Perhaps the single greatest benefit of being semi-retired is being able to hunt any day, not just on my days off. I can wait for better weather and feel as though, I might miss something.A cold front is scheduled to come through this afternoon and if it clears some, I will probably go for a short hunt. For sure, I will be on the ridge, at dawn tomorrow. But this morning, I will go to Bible study, run a couple errands, workout and then...who knows. Might even put in some kitchen-time.
Flash flood warnings. I figure about 3" in two hours and still coming down. Big benefit is, when it stops and the temp drops, deer are going to be super moving and they will be on the high ground, out of the hollers and spring heads. Rushing water hinders their hearing and believe me, we will have rushing water.
Sounds like a great day either way John, thanks for keeping us up to date!
Good game plan. Stick to your plan!!
Total of about 5.5-inches. That means, no matter what piece of property I hunt, if I kill one, it would be a monster drag because no way we can get a vehicle in any of the fields. Would have drag quite some distance. Therefore-no hunting until tomorrow. Let the water soak in a bit, then breakout the 4WD tractor, if need be.
Just picked up 26-pounds of ground deer meat. I think chilli is in the plans with soft jerky in the works for the weekend. I have no teeth...so I devised a soft jerky recipe that is fantastic. Now...I shall take a big shot of Milk of Magnesia and wait for things to develop. I'll hit the woods tomorrow, three pounds lighter.
