My 2017 Year Recap
2017 was a year I will not soon forget. I hunted in 5 states and made a lifetimes worth of memories. It started in January for coues and just kept on going. Won’t go into details too much I’ll just add pics...
Took my biggest coues to date this past January. In my opinion hardest most spooky deer there is to hunt period!
Got to get a javelina tag and called this guy to 6 steps I arrowed him. One of the coolest hunts ever!!
Next up was spring turkey. And some of y’all know how Turkey season goes for us :-)
Chris and I doubled up on Jakes. His daughter wanted to see one die so I couldn’t say no
Another thread with lots of dead animals taken by a dedicated bowhunter!
Joey C's all Sorts of Bux and Stuffs in 2017! Congrats man, way to go and excellent pictures! Good luck in 2018!
Screen shot of the video of my arrow impact
My third bird was a spot an stalk Indian sneak and it resulted in this
Was part of a lot of fun kills in the spring. Turkey hunting is one of my favorites and alway will be!
Went on a mid April pig hunt and shot a hog that ran into a pond and died. Was sort of funny. Did it drown or did the arrow kill it. Who knows
Competed in the CA state broadhead tourney and was lucky enough to bring home first place. Came down to the last arrow. Lots of fun on this trip
Many of you know the guy on the far right. Great group of people and so much fun to hang with them all!
Next up was August velvet. Killed this guy on opening evening. Luck was on my side as I expected it to be a week long hunt for him
Really cool buck with lots of character
Next up was my bear hunt. Sat all day and shot this young guy a little before dark at 14 yards off a water hole. Bikes in 4 miles behind locked gates to get to him. Man do bear stink!
Certainly not a giant but with the predator population on the rise every tag punched helps!
Sometimes I pack in and take the kitchen sink with me
Camp for a few short days
This hunt was a bust but lessons were learned. Some of them were carried over to my next solo elk hunt the following week :)
This sept the weather was awesome in terms of ideal elk hunting conditions. I stalked in on this cow in her bed and waited for my opportunity.
Something every hunter loves to see. A blood trail in the snow :-)
Elk meat tastes too good to have to wait another year. I was filling my freezer
Few days later I had made friends with some locals and they invited me to hunt some deer on a private ranch. First evening luck would have me stalk into 60 yards and arrow this guy. Found him the next morning piled up!! So much fun
Made it back to the elk woods later on and punched my second elk tag!! Always wanted to kill 2 elk in September and finally had achieved my goal!!
What state was the elk taken Joe? Good stuff so far.
A week later I made it home and punched my second deer tag at home with this nice guy before I had to return to work
Next up was my November trip with some good friends. This trip was probably my favorite due to many aspects. First whitetail rut hunt and what a kick in the pants. Froze my rear off tho
I punched my doe tag on the first night with this gal. She kinda caught on to me and started blowing and stomping. Big mistake :)
This was the arrow from my buck tag. Grunted him to 13 yards and double lunged em. I haven’t shaken that bad after arrowing an animal in years. Don’t know if it was the cold or a combo but man what a rush!
Unreal blood trail. I sat at this spot and could see it with my naked eye for 40-50 yards. So cool
Some of y’all might recognize this guy :-) genuinely one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met and loved being around him. Always positive and upbeat. Can’t say enough good things about him. Reliving the moment of truth!!
Certainly not a giant. But the hunt itself was so cool and to call a deer to my tree for the first time there was no way he wasn’t getting an arrow!!
After that the season winded down and all that was left was fall turkeys. Here is a pic from one of my hunts this fall. Yes you can decoy birds in with good deeks. DSD baby!!
One Eve I caught up to this guy headed to the roost and let the air out of him!
My next hunt I passed on many opportunities but when this gal presented the chance and the beard she was sporting there was no way she was getting the pass!! This is a screen shot from the video. Notice the arrow
My last tag for 2017 was this hen. One of the things I take pride in is making the most of my opportunities in the field. This season worked out awesome as every animal (except one spring turkey) that I drew back on came home with me. Certainly counting my blessings as this whole entire year has been nothing short of awesome for me. Not just in the woods but all aspects of life. Thanks to everyone for checking this out and I hope everyone had a good season as well. Happy holidays to y’all.
Incredible year Joe...congrats! Great photos as usual!
That's a pretty solid season Joe! Great pics as well. Congrats!
As always you never disappoint . Congrats on a great year . Incredible photos also. Thanks for posting and good luck next year. Hunt
Wow, I need to get out more...
Awesome year, Joe! Congratulations on all of your great accomplishments!
This is a GREAT example of what happens when you take the time to setup your pictures. I sometimes think it's better than even having shoulder mounts. Take the time and you will have a lifetime of memories.
Thanks for taking the time to share!
Joe, another amazing season, congrats. You also have the best trophy photos.
Congrats Joe! Just an awesome year.
What a great year. Wonderful memories...
Good grief, Joe! Thanks for sharing that. Your "season" was more successful than most bowhunters' entire careers. What an inspiration!
Good stuff as always Joe. Very few have your eye for photography. Thanks for posting!
Joe, you stated, "too much fun". Well that is surely an understatement. Nicely done.
my best, Paul
What a season! congrats Joe! FM
Wow. Hard to believe that was all in a year. Great accomplishment Joe! I think Jaquomo is right, as I think that is more shooting than my entire bowhunting career! What to do with all the meat?
What a year Joe! Going to be hard to top that one, but I have feeling you're going to have a great time trying in 2018! Congrats buddy, no one deserves it more with all the hard work you put in. Thanks for taking us along! Maybe a SD mule deer hunt is in the cards for next year? You're welcome anytime!
Wow! Incredible season. You're living right Joe...congrats man and love the photos. Top notch and a well deserved success :)
Wow great year, congrats Joe!
Dang dude. That's awesome! Very cool to see guys putting in the effort and reaping the rewards. Doesn't always end up in lots of dead animals but when it does......so cool. Well done sir. Keep the fire lit.

That's a great season Joe ! This has been mine so far.....
Lots of fun right there !! Congrats.

Drycreek, you are doing fine with them hogs. Weather has not cooperated in your area. Hang in there!
Are you out of arrows yet?
Great year. Thanks for the recap.
LOL at drycreek. You must have had a year like mine. Joehunter, congrats on an awesome year! Is that an Impulse you are shooting?
Not only a nice guy, I think the guy on the left knows a thing or two about whitetails as well. :-)
I love it! Ryan and I got to hunt with Joe (and Chris) and for those who have never met him, I can tell you he's a great guy! Positive, energetic, and pleasant to be around- just a good guy. I'm very happy for you, Joe-- one heck of a year! When are you coming to visit me to get yourself a MN and ND whitetail?
Congrats on an amazing year Joe!
Joe, that picture of you sliding down to see your whitetail reminds me of a day I spent with Troy a few years ago. I managed to break my leg with my own rear end in a ravine nearby. Troy didn't carry me out but he did find me a nice stick to use as a crutch. I still have the stick sitting in a corner beneath some deer heads.
Congrats on a terrific season and thank you for sharing. Your photos are truly impressive! Jeff
Thanks for sharing your exciting, successful year with us! Great pics!
Congratulations Joe... awesome year for sure.
