Post Season Scouting~~
Wild Sheep
'morning All,
I spent last week down in Az. doing some post season scouting on Desert Rams in 2 of my Fav Az. units.
I traveled thru Kanab, Utah and of course it is mandatory to stop at the Muley Crazy magazine Headquarters in Kanab.
I then stayed on route 89A and up/over the famed Kaibab
I'll add more later as I need to leave and be @ the Gym by 0500 so I can get my Lap swimming lane before those girls take over the lanes!! haha

Daughter and I hiked the Grand Canyon R2R2R last Labor Day weekend. Jacobs Lake Inn breakfast burrito was VERY welcome after.

I had aboutan hour drive in the mornings to get to my other Fav unit.
It is always spooky to me to cross a bridge that drops so far down ~~ goes back to when I was a kid and developed the fear

I drove by the Muley crazy office a few years ago but it was closed. Really impressive bucks, would have been nice.

I just got back from a Post Season scouting trip, Rocky Ram units here in my home state.

They use to be separate units up here at Flaming Gorge on the Utah/Wyoming border.
I always stay at Red Canyon Lodge Cabins

The UDWR combined them into one unit now with only 3 tags offered.
Younger Rams hang with the Ewe's/Lambs till summer

Rocky Rams average in the 150--160's
When I had my Forest Service Permit we harvested many Rams off both units over the years

13 Degrees this morning, heading up into what is called Death Valley.
Glassed/counted 28 sheep--Rams, Ewe's and lambs before I rimmed out to look down into Sheep Creek
I gotta get ready to head to the gym this early AM, so I will continue later

I have a commitment to help out 12 guys/gals if 1 of them actually draws 1 of the 3 available tags.
They range from 3 points up to 18 points so not any of them are a shoe-in for drawing a tag.
It is fun to get my spot-n-stalk skills honed early spring for the fall hunts

This years crop of lambs should be any day now.

Rob, Did you mount your Ebike to your jeep and use it in any of your scouting trips?
Great pics, looks like you had a good time.
Nice shots and story, Robb. That is great country. Wife and I and another couple in a separate vehicle did the '4 park tour', Zion/Bryce/GC North Rim, and Canyonlands, then over to Moab. We passed by that Muley Crazy place, and I was jonesing big time to stop but we could not (due to the other party). That really hurts, esp. now after4 seeing those pics. 6 sets of sheds off one big buck! Then after we went by the Vermillion Cliffs in the evening, we came to the 'T' that leads toe either Lake Powell or toward Tuba City. The road was blown out to the left so we had to take a 3 hour detour through tuba City and go the long way over to Antelope canyon and up to Powell. That REALLY sucked. And to top it off, we had to drive by one of my bucket list destinations, Monument Valley, because of time constraints. Overall the two week trip was great (also saw Mesa Verde), but some things will have to wait until next time. And I didn't get to do any post season scouting or shed hunting either. It was a driving/hiking through Nat. Parks tour. We did not see many sheep. :/ I've seen a ton in Montana and north of Dubois, Wyo though. Saw then smashing heads - ramming. Unbelievable sight with over 70 sheep, and 9 adult rams. Watched for over an hour. TK

I debated it back and forth but I wanted to just go with no agenda other than hiking and relaxing.
Plus I don't have that much experience on the eBike in rugged country/trails on a solo trip.
As I get better and more knowledge/experience on the eBike, I will take it more often.

Calvin, reads like a fun trip and the scenery thru those area's are overwhelming geologically.
Yeh those 'Detours' can easily turn into a 'New Tour' type deal. haha
