When I was there, It had just been set up. A feeder and two blinds. It should be a great spot. I wish I was setting in it right now.

I'll be there in a little over 2 weeks. That black and white one won't make 3 weeks if it gives me a broadside. Weak man syndrome, got it from Inbowdude. No cure.

Hey ' bad karma', I broke the news to my 11 year old son about the black and white pig. He was wondering if you wanted to come over and kick his puppy next. Lol. Good luck guys on your hunt ! Wanna see some pics ! Mike

All kinds of nice hogs down there, even bigger and more knarly than that black and white one. We have taken three different boys down to Shiloh when they were I believe 12 years old. All of them had success on hogs using low poundage compounds (40#-45#) with cut on contact heads (Magnus Stingers). Arrow placement is critical. Ground blinds seem to have a bit of an edge on the elevated stands. Helps contain your scent and hide movement. I don't like ground blinds...but they work. Listen to Matt and Cheryl and hunt the stands they recommend. Good luck to both you and your boy.

Thanks BowhuntKS.. I got him shooting a few days a week and some days are better than others. I don't hunt a lot out of ground blinds but they do have their advantages like you stated.. He's shooting just around 38lbs now and I think he could up the poundage w/o any problem.. Would like to get at least to 45 lbs before we get there. Have a feeling that the first pig that shows up regardless of color or size is gonna end up in the cooler ! LOL.. Always enjoy these posts . Thank you

I had to retrain my brain for arrow placement on hogs vs deer. The best target I found was the Master Hog target (laminated paper target) carried by Lancaster archery. The vitals on the target may be a little farther forward than actual but it really helps keep you tight in the pocket. I have lost a couple hogs that would have been double lung shots on deer, but were gut shots on a hog. When the hogs come in to the corn let them settle down a bit and wait for a broadside shot. Hogs seem to be constantly moving, fighting, just plain jittery, when they first come in.

Lots of good advice on here on shot placement. With kids I have taken both my daughter and son with crossbow to shiloh, the nice thing is you are going to target rich environment. Teaching patience will be the key factor they move around a lot and you want to make sure you get a good broadside shot (and there aren't hogs behind them) and like mentioned by others hogs vitals are lower and more forward than whitetails. I learned the hard way at shiloh first couple I shot I thought perfect double lung, never found pigs. Have shot several where Arrow is maybe two inches from belly in the pocket of leg and die within in sight. When hit right they don't go far. Listen to Matt and Cheryl they will stir you in right direction. No matter what a day at shiloh is pretty much 10x better than any day at work!!!

Thanks for all the great info !! My son shot a big boar 2 years ago w his crossbow but wants to challenge himself and stick to tryng his Bear Cruzer compound bow that we got him for Christmas ..I'll give him credit for that ! Looking at all the pigs and how fast they bounce around should make it interesting .Picked up some paper targets from Birchwood Casey that show the "sweet" spot for boar. Just gotta square away his arrow selection and we are good to go. Got some Gold Tip Ted Nugent 500 spine that he's been launching and Slick Trick 1" Fixed blades .

Hammer, tell you what. I'll let the black and white one go if he comes within bow range. If he makes it to your trip, I hope your son whacks him. I'll find 2 or 3 others that'll be fine to shoot.

Very nice of you' bad karma' . He's all yours if you get the shot please !! Thank you, but I have a feeling that the first pig that stands still for my son is gonna get a Gold Tip launched at it !!! Looks like there are lots of pigs running around. Good luck to you.

There are plenty of big hogs there, Fox. The group of sixty that I chased had a bunch in them. We saw two bedded in an unusual spot that were are big or bigger than my pig, and quite a few others. Lots of pigs, but there were at least two groups of sixty or better. Try beating 60 noses, and 120 eyes to get a shot.
Next time I head out there, I think I'll have an opportunity to whack a hog in his bed that will be a complete surprise to him. And a bear for me to get out of the woods......good thing Country is there to help.
