So Moose....

So, I've been getting my future endeavors in order and I've recently been looking into a moose hunt... This will be at least 3 years down the road and Canada is out of the question I think. I was a rambunctious kid before college and acquired some less than desirable baggage. Idaho seems legit, but the controlled hunt tags seem like a shot in the dark. What have y'all done in Alaska that's worth mentioning and doesn't break the bank?

Define “doesn’t break the bank”. I personally drop more $ on the moose meat processing than on the moose hunting every year but I’ve been doing it for a little while and have learnt a few things along the way.
Alaska is not cheap compared to the lower 48.

I guess I would have to get a guide wouldn't I? I thought in Alaska you did. I would be a NR. Breaking the bank would probably mean it cost more than my truck. So 15k. Haha.

I posted this in another thread, but I'll post it here too. I rent our Lisa Lake cabin for $2,500 for a ten day period during the best of the moose season. That’s $2,500 for two Bowhunters, its Bowhunting only. I believe this is the best value you'll find in a DIY moose hunt anywhere. The number one moose at the last P&Y convention was taken a few miles upstream from where Lisa Lake is located in Unit 16B. You don’t need a guide to hunt moose in Alaska, but I’d listen to some moose calling videos.

If your knowledge of Alaska moose hunting was limited to knowing if you can hunt moose with or without a guide, I'd encourage you to get a guide. No offense. I'm honestly looking out for you and hoping you have a good hunt. DIY AK hunting is not easily researchable with 100s of hours of time invested and you'd know that moose can be hunted DIY with 3-5 minutes on adfg.alaska.gov

Hmmm Thanks Blacktail! I will take that into consideration. It's always been my ultimate goal, and I can't do it without my main man. My younger brother that is, he joined the Air Force and has been tied up, so once I graduate and he's free of his commitments, I may be giving you a call!

Haha! Thanks for looking out for me! I really appreciate it. I based that off something I had read on here, haven't even made my way to the fish and game website yet, thought I would just get the ball rolling here. Like I said, it's a ways out. Thanks for the concern!

Plan to hunt Ontario. Simply drive to the border and if denied entry, claim refugee status. Tell them you are gay and attended an anti Trump rally and now fear persecution. You will be ushered right through the line, given some cash and winter clothing. Do NOT mention you are a hunter.

HAHA!!!! Ambush, that made my night. I just may try that! I'd better start brushing up on my rendition on "O, Canada".

Don't forget that our latest rendition of O Canada is now "gender neutral" or WTH that means nowadays thanks to our charismatic loving so-called leader of this free nation. Your other option is turning terrorist. We seem to love welcoming them with open arms.

TD, don't get the wrong idea, I threw xbowdoctor95 together super quick and I use an X-bow during gun season here in WI. I also bow hunt. I shoot the bow WAY more than the X-bow and use that on my Whitetail (bow season), Bear, Elk (future), Moose (future), etc. Let's keep this convo about the hunt fellas! No political agendas here! LOL!
