The MT FWP phone number (406-444-2950) has an automatic message that says the drawing for all deer and elk licenses and tags will start on Monday 4/23 and finish on Wednesday 4/25.

Ditto what Elk just said. I Just got off the phone with the licensing department and she told me they decided to move it back to the week of the 23rd for non residents to ensure they "get it right" this year. :-)

Sorry for the unfortunate news, but drawing results will be delayed a week. Undoubtedly, everyone is eager to learn results of the drawing for mule deer buck and either sex and special antlerless elk permits; however, the results will not be available for another week. The drawing will now happen the week of April 23.
Reasons behind the delay are:
• Licensing folks are still reconciling data from applications. • FWP still needs to run a mock drawing to ensure the system is operating smoothly. This will happen toward the end of this week. • The agency wants to run the drawing at a time when staff is available to answer questions from the public about the drawing or the new MyFWP portal. • It is critical for FWP to do everything in its power to have a mistake-free drawing, and this extra time will allow for that.
FWP thanks you for your patience as these issues are addressed with the goal of having a smooth drawing process. Best of luck in drawing your desired permits!

What takes a month to run these apps through a computer program? It seems to me like they could hit run and have everything complete within a day. They have had a month and haven't gotten around to testing the system yet and now need more time?

In Manitoba our results get mailed to us in July/August lol. Season starts roughly 25th of August. Montana is treating you right ;)

This was my first time applying for MT so I'm not certain but I think that you have to draw the combo license before being drawn for a special (limited entry) permit. I didn't draw the combo so I couldn't draw the permit. I think the combo license was previously undersubscribed.

SBH, I believe they have a set amount of NR licenses. They haven't sold them out for quite sometime, but last year and this year they did.

Just went to buy my Montana turkey tags at just over a 100 bucks each and the clerk said hey you get them for 57 bucks now did you apply for a big game tag because you must have got it ! Woo hoo!

I called them today most guys put in for the elk deer combo they did not give me a number that were left. If you apply for a limited tag and don't tell them you will except the general license. Your odds are better if you apply and get the elk only combo

I finally drew this year. I had four bonus points for Unit 410 going in and purchased the preference point for the first time this year. The draw seemed to be much more organized this year. Last year was a mess.
