With an excessive heat warning in place I debated whether I should go out one last time. The last time out Saturday I was eaten alive by mosquitoes and ticks. At 4 this morning I woke up and told my wife I wasn’t going. Five minutes later I jumped out of bed and said I gotta go.

I made it to the oak flats and did some light calling. Nothing. Another hundred yards and a tom gobbled. He sounded far but I was unsure how far.

I knew where he was . Kinda. I got as close as I thought possible based on his gobbling. Just as I set up the decoy he let out a gobble. Dang he was close. He must have been facing the other way and the last time he was facing me. Shortly after that he flew down the opposite way.

The pyrethrum I sprayed my clothes with yesterday seems to be doing it’s job. No ticks so far.
Pretty quiet but if one comes in i’ m Sure it will come in silent.

6:52 I just had a hen come in 3 yards away. I did hear a gobble right before that.

8:36 just went to full draw on a tom 25 yards out walking He saw lone hen deke I gave a mouth call and he gobbled. Dang no shot. So close

He was behind the raspberry bushes slightly below the rise when stopped and gobbled. Should have put the Jake decoy out lol.

10 more minutes and I gotta wrap it up. Good way to end the season. It would have been better had I shot the tom but that’s the way it goes.

I put in a half assed effort on Saturday. Yesterday was our last day here I did not even go out. It has been a hot, dry, terrible season here. I'm OK to be over it.
