How do you cope when...
Elk

How do you cope when someone wants you to think about something that isnt bowhunting elk? I dont have it in me. Let's just talk about bowhunting elk.
Well, I try to subdue my narcissism, be courteous, and converse with them.
I tell them “Let’s go walleye fishing”
Sorry. As much as I love elk hunting, there are many other things to enjoy too
So you're telling me the whole time you were reeling in that walleye you weren't thinking about bowhunting elk? Lol
I was thinking back to an old thread of elk hunters anonymous when I made this one.
I'm leaving September the 7th for Colorado fr 2 weeks of elk hunting. As excited as I am about that, I have a date with a couple hundred small mouths before then that I am just as excited about. Everything has its time and place. Now, if it would just quite raining so the rivers would return t their banks!!!!! I get angry if I can't small mouth fish.
Catching these pigs works.
Hoss cats. Pound for Pound, one of the most aggressive, strongest fish in freshwater. I prefer river fishing but, I'd fish any where to catch them like that. Great fish Michael.
Yep. Talking smallmouths helps.
My nephew caught his first smallmouth this weekend.
Love smallmouth! Some dandies there, guys! Making me jealous!
One of my favorites but haven’t gotten into any good fishing for them lately.
Finally caught my first walleye in April up here in the mountains.
Love big pike and trout, too!
Oh, big elk are OK in a pinch...
Like WV Mountaineer I will be leaving West Virginia September 5 for Colorado to hunt elk until the archery season is over. There is plenty of fishing to do this time of year. Summer time is upon us. We will be doing the "honey do jobs" to keep our wives happy and to complete the tasks we have to do for our instate fall hunting and preparing ourselves for our Colorado hunt. Do something constructive and time goes by faster. I know how you feel, been there-done that since I am from the East.
I somehow get by with fishing, backpacking and adventuring with my girlfriend. My mountain place has awesome trout fishing, while the lake I manage down below has smallies to 6 lbs, walleyes, tiger muskies, largemouth, slab crappies, perch, rock base, and some little catfish.
It's a struggle but somehow it helps the long months pass between elk seasons...
Catching 169 Lahontan Cutthroat Trout with a good friend over two days sure helps.... They averaged about 5# with five over ten and he lost one approaching 18# at the boat. I’ve fished this lake for 40 years and Saturday and Sunday were the best days I’ve ever had.
Little Michigan largemouth.... I think I'm going to try this little inland lake again on Friday....
This turned from a joke thread into a beautiful fishing thread. And I love that lol. I should probably do more fishing.
Fishing does pass the time until elk season! They are also just as tasty on the grill!
Yup, it's hard to keep us on task, but this one took a turn I never would have predicted.
I can honestly say I wasn't thinking about elk hunting at this moment.
Life’s too short to have to deal with people like that.
Dang Brun, with fishin’ partners like that, a guy might even flat miss elk season!
Looks like a Jaquomo and Brotsky better be careful or they might miss elk season, too!
Awesome job and great pics! Glad to see not everyone is totally ate up with elk!
Here's one from before the house in Texas got wiped by the hurricane.. I had a late night with Jack Daniels. And the only place to put the fish was my nephew's pool.
Elk use to take up maybe four to six weeks of my year. I had and have a lot of things to think about. Fishing, primarily for smallies, takes up at least seven months of my year. Then, I gots deer and bear and stuff like dat rat dere.
Monster walleyes in Lake Erie!

Muskies take my mind off of elk..... for a little bit anyway.

Dang Brun! At first I thought that was your arm going down between her legs! =^O
Walleyes baby. It’s what’s for supper tonight! My livewell last weekend
Sometimes...just to make the circle complete I’ll even eat elk when catching walleyes
Now that’s usin the ol noggin APauls!
I'd show you a video where I BBQ in the boat and the BBQ is about 10" from my gas tanks that may make you think differently Treeline ;). But honestly bringing a portable BBQ for a day of fishing has changed the game entirely.

Yep, lots of things to "catch" to help kill time between elk seasons.
The GF loves to catch and clean frogs almost more than I do!
Fishing and looking for arrowheads.
Finding arrowheads is awesome, Patdel! Here's some I found during turkey season. Little tech comparison photo.
Much more to life than elk hunting. Fishing and naps are just a few.

I take my dog to the park
There’s ways to make it through summer...
And loving my new partner...
I spent the weekend braving tropical storm Alberto down in the keys for my bachelor party. Slayed the snapper, tuna and a couple mahi. Not a bad way to pass the time.
Panther that orvis gear looks like an amazing partner! And congrats on the kid. Lol!
Today is my birthday, fishing with GF and have caught largemouth, smallmouth, crappies, and she caught a nice catfish on a crappie jig. Havent thought about elk hunting yet but the day is young!
Now headed for Mexican food and margs before we go whack golf balls and shoot arrows. Life is good....
Looks like a blast, Jaq! Happy birthday, man!! Hope you have a great rest of your day.
But let's be honest you had a glimmer of elk thought the moment you wrote that ;) no shame in that.
Sounds like a plan Lou. Happy birthday.
Happy birthday, Lou! Glad you are out having a blast!
Happy Birthday Lou! Have some fun for the schmucks still stuck in a cubicle.
Last week, I had a couple pretty nice bream.
We are certainly a fortunate bunch!
Going flyfishing on my birthday in June. I love tying flies from the turkeys and deer and elk i harvest.
Happy Birthday Lou.
But last night at archery league you said you were gonna have sushi. ?
Or is that dessert? :)
Happy birthday Jaq! That's a beauty of a catfish. Did you catch it in Colorado? I have never seen one that big from Colorado! Best of luck to you.............Badbull
Badbull, we get some big ones in N. CO ponds in May-June. My friend who fishes for them a lot caught a dozen over 20 last year.
I love elk hunting as much as anyone, but life's got lots of other fun activities during the off season.
Just spent 2 weeks with my dad who came to visit. We found stuff to occupy our time..... golfing, shooting gophers, and fishing with my son catching his first and grandpa on hand to watch. Grandpa didn't do too bad either.
Good thing elk hunting isn't during tarpon season
^^^Those are fun. Like hooking a run away freight train that jumps.
One of these i got to get back down to Boca Grande.
Cabo too, marlin and dorado.
OOOOOOH Tarpon is on the list for sure!!!
Tarpon are everything you've heard. Especially on fly.
Been a tough season with the weather (Alberto) but plenty of good days left in June.
Got to love a day on the river!! Hunt

I do get a little cagey when you get into the last 1/4 of the wait......This type of thing helps for sure. Ill add a couple to keep things going..
That rooster makes me jealous!!!!!!
Big tarpon and rooster are both on the list! Awesome fish, guys!
Gotta love June evening walleye fishing in Colorado
I would, cnelk, but CPW has been killing them as hard as they can at the lake in my backyard! And the pike as well! May need to make a trip up north to try with you or Jaq...
